British citizens urged to leave Mali as rebel gunmen attack northern city

British citizens currently in Mali, in west Africa are being urged to leave.
The Foreign Office has changed its travel advice, urging all but those who have urgent business there to leave.
The new advice follows an attempted coup last week and specifically warns those in the capital, Bamako, to be cautious.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said: 'We advise against all travel to Mali and you should leave if you have no pressing need to remain.'
'Given ongoing instability in the country, and now that the airport has re-opened, you should leave if you have no pressing need to remain.'

Rebels have already attacked Mali's strategic northern city of Gao, a day after they took the provincial capital of Kidal.

Yep, this is just another place where the US, UK etc... Have started another civil war. They are taking over everywhere for fuck sake.

The russians, Putin in particular, has said we need to protect the world from facism.

What the US is now engaged in and the UK, is a systematic and covert operation to create disturbance across Africa and other continents.

They are even talking about putting the AMD in Ukraine next to Russia.

Our governments have gone power crazy people.

Suffice to say, that's all russia will be doing.

The west has indeed gone on a power trip, and I anticipate it's not long before they shortly seize control (officially speaking - they already have unofficially speaking). Given russia and china's lax response (they like not turning up to UN summits, issuing statements of condemnation but... they don't seem to do a lot else).

Makes me wonder if russia/china are being 'pretend' opposition. If they are, everybody here has already lost.

Tuareg rebels, who capitalized on the chaos caused by a recent military coup in Mali, have encircled the ancient city of Timbuktu, the last major government holdout in the country’s north. Timbuktu residents told Reuters the army units located in Timbuktu had abandoned their bases, leaving the defense of the town to local militias. Blasts from heavy arms and automatic gunfire were heard in Timbuktu throughout the day Sunday, they added.

If Timbuktu were to fall, most of Mali's Sahara desert region would come under the control of the three-month-old insurgency, which has vowed to collaborate with Islamists to rule the area in opposition to the junta now in charge in the country’s capital of Bamako.
