Yes, "destroying the ego" is some convoluted new age psycho babble. It's impossible.
The believers in that philosophy are the most self absorbed of the bunch.
Typical adherents to that philosophy will most likely be a condescending douche bag.
They will state something in absolute certainty and if you disagree, they will say something like, "You fear it" or assume you are some neolithic caveman because you don't 'dig' their 'world view'.
Most of them are even bigger sheeple follower drones than the "Joe six packs" and "Suzie soccer moms".
Interesting post. I disagree with some of it yet agree with the observations.
"destroying the ego" is impossible. It's the struggle to minimize self-importance that should be the focus.
Notice how in your observation you state those who believe in it speak with 'absolute certainty' and attack those who disagree by saying 'you fear it'.
Interesting to me because I believe the 4 natural enemies of mankind are fear, clarity, power, and old age.
Notice how in your own observations clarity and fear work together.
Someone who recognizes that self-importance should be erased also recognizes that clarity is an enemy we have inside us just as fear is. When clarity takes over, the mind closes to the unknown and the unknowable. The same happens when fear takes over.
On the path to rid oneself of self-importance, one must confront fear, clarity, and power and overcome them.
