That is quite an outdated idea. Back in the 50's and 60's some psychiatrists tried to 'cure' transsexuals by injecting them with testosterone for example. This actually only made things worse.
To date, transition is the only known 'cure' for gender dysphoria. I asked my endocrinologist once about hormone levels in pre-hrt transsexuals. He told me that save for intersex persons they were comparable to the mean of the population.
