Typhoon-strength winds, rain cause travel chaos in Japan
A typhoon-strength storm brought travel chaos to Japan on Tuesday, as violent winds and rain left tens of thousands of people stranded.

The meteorological agency said on its website the strong winds would move northwards into Wednesday, producing waves up to 10 meters high.

“In particular, ferocious winds are expected at sea (in the north) on the Sea of Japan side. Please be extremely wary of violent winds and high waves.”

The agency also warned heavy rain could trigger landslides and flooding.

I do not know if this is good for all the Dust, Pollen, etc,

The storm dumped heavy rain overnight on Japan’s southwest island of Kyushu before moving northeast toward Osaka and Tokyo.

Cosmo Oil Co. (5007) halted oil barge berthing at its refineries at Chiba and Yokkaichi, west of Tokyo, Katsuhisa Maeda, a company spokesman, said by phone earlier today. The refiner may also stop loading and unloading barges at processing plants at Sakai, south of Osaka, and Sakaide on the island of Shikoku.

JX Nippon Oil and Energy Corp., Japan’s largest refiner, stopped barge berthing at its Marifu refinery in western Japan, as well as its Negishi refinery in Yokohama, according to a company official who declined to be identified citing the company’s internal policy.

Idemitsu Kosan Co. (5019) stopped berthings at its Chiba, Aichi and Tokuyama refineries, spokesman Kei Uchikawa said.

West Japan Railway Co. (9021) canceled bullet train services on the Sanyo Shinkansen line between Osaka and Hakata station in Kyushu, the company said on its website.

The last Typhoon Season showed some Impact on the Dust
but it is also very, very wet so the Pollution
do not travel that fast only the contamination

But always when it gets really bad the Weather-Girls,
the Reporter and even the Presidente start to wear
Helmets and Overall!

We have also Helmets not made by Tin-Foil
because after a Earthquake everything will be instable
and a Helmet provide at least a little Protection!

that Stuff is relative stable and Daiichi is covered in green!

Atom Boy, You ROCK!!!! Thank you so much for this awesome compilation of info! I am on an emergency email list, and usually receive an email every time Japan has a 4.0 or higher earthquake... and I thought it was strange that I received an email alert in the middle of the night warning of the high and dangerous wave conditions. Now I know why!

It's almost 8pm here in Tokyo. I can believe a tornado could be lurking. Ears are ringing from shrieking wind all day and its stronger than ever now. This is a freak typhoon that suddenly just materialized over Japan.
