It's obvious the MSM wants the fuehrer in the WH for another term...I keep reading articles with references to the 'long gone recession' and how 'wonderful things are'. On the note you mentioned above: many 'factory' jobs are big dollar positions. A lot of the auto manufacturers had/have people on the assembly floor making $65+ per hour. I think a fresh noob even starts around $22-$24 per hour. And they wonder why they can't make money and why they've lost major market share to foreign auto makers. |

They are laying off and firing people at a faster clip than they are hiring. [link to www.s8int.com] “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Quote from Joseph Goebbels Hitlers propaganda man. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13832056 United States 04/05/2012 12:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Brace for the blow. A good friend works for Yahoo and has a 1000 square foot house in San Fran that he paid $550k for in 2005. I texted him this morning to wish him well today after I read about the Yahoo layoffs. He was waiting to see what the day would bring. The last time we had a wave of these layoffs it started around August of 2008. The internet was buzzing about the possibility of a stock market crash. Things got freaky real quick. We certainly are not in the condition as a nation that we were in in 2008. People are out of savings. Most households lost a considerable amount of income. We are on the edge after being kicked down the road for 4-5 years. To me the circumstances look very similar to the ones in late summer or 2008 only there is no safety net. All of the crooked cards have been played. Everyone is wise to the game. I am planting a mega garden this year - 50' x 70'. I started 1000s of seeds in Jiffy pots this year so I could get all my friends and family to start or increase their garden. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1196210 Don't know how you get this from the companies you listed, half of what you listed ARE FACTORY JOBS. Also, I work as an electronics tech in a factory and I can assure you there isn't ANYONE beyond upper mangaement that makes more money at Wal-Mart or Best Buy than the employees do here where I work. Factory jobs, for the most part, pay higher wages and have better benefits than anything Wal-mart or Best Buy offers. |

But the MSM is trying to make us believe that the economy has turned around and everything is great now. BULLSHIT. The MSM is also trying to say that the housing market has recovered and prices should start to appreciate by years end. BULLSHIT. Existing homes are being bought up by investors. That is what got us into this mess in the first place. |

And finally, is it better to cut a handful of jobs or keep everyone around until the entire company goes down and puts everyone on the street? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 6673466 United States 04/05/2012 01:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You don't get it. They are laying off and replacing the positions with cheaper non-domestic help. This is no longer just factory workers, or call center these are the white collar jobs. So now America is hurting for money and these companies that are still treading water or making a profit, send paychecks out of the States. Now we have, electronics, clothing, automobiles, everything in Walmart, call centers, bankers, communications, etc etc. Wonder why America is going broke? |

TurkeyTots User ID: 1487956 United States 04/05/2012 01:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | AT&T: “We are reducing some jobs in the parts of our business that are declining, particularly wireline,” said AT&T spokesman Marty Richter. “In the last five years AT&T has lost more than 40 percent of its wired access lines — more than 27 million lines — as consumers increasingly disconnect their home wireline access and rely solely on wireless phones. This shift in our business is driving the shift in our employee base.” - If more of us would buy what they're selling, they wouldn't have to move people out of those areas. --- Yahoo: "We are intensifying our efforts on our core businesses and redeploying resources to our most urgent priorities," Thompson said Wednesday in a statement. "Our goal is to get back to our core purpose – putting our users and advertisers first. And we are moving aggressively to achieve that goal." - They started out strong and got cocky... hired too many people in too many areas, got owned by companies like Google, and now have to back off. --- Lockheed Martin: "We will make our best effort to help interested employees find employment elsewhere in the [c]orporation," said Lockheed spokeswoman Lindsay Wilson. "We also expect that many of the affected employees may have the opportunity for employment with the new contract holder." - The contract expired and they lost the bid on the followup. --- Dow Chemical: “These actions, while difficult, are in full alignment with our commitment to continually manage our portfolio to adapt to changing and volatile economic conditions, as we are seeing particularly in Western Europe, and to preferentially invest in our fast-growing, technology-rich businesses” Dow CEO Andrew Liveris said in a statement. - This isn't exclusive to the US. --- See? All of these are practically mandatory business decisions. Sure some of these companies could keep the extra people around, but then they're just hurting their bottom line, their shareholders, and the future of the company (and all its employees) overall. |
