Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1514119 Heres a photo taken today [link to tinypic.com] And here is one taken earlier in the day [link to tinypic.com] Ive always know that sometimes the moon is visible during the day, but for the past year both the sun and moon are out everyday during the day, and now the moon is full every day. It's not full - it has exactly the same phase you see at night. That's easily confirmed with binoculars. It's harder to tell during gibbous phases, especially as it gets close to full. And it's no more visible during the day than it ever has been. Apart from during an exactly full moon, it's going to be visible for some time in daylight. Close to full it'll only be a short time near sunrise or sunset, but as it progresses towards new moon it spends more and more time in the daylit sky. The only reason you and other people are noticing it is because of threads like this on GLP and other forums where people are talking about it. |

It is obviously not , lately I have been watching the Moon through the day , either half or quarter and the sun is also up . If the Sun is high in the sky and the partial moon is also , it is impossible for us to be causing the shadow . The portion we cannot see is obviously because the Sun is shinning on the illuminated face and the position of the Moon relative to us means we can only see the illuminated face . |

Balthuuu User ID: 1691475 Sweden 04/05/2012 03:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not even close to being a full moon.. Love is not the game, life is. - When we wake up in this "reality" every morning, we are actually falling asleep, because only in our dreams we are truly awake. - We are not our body, nor our mind. We are not the voice in our body, nor our head. We are the the here and now, experiencing without any input from either of the mentioned above. - It's not about others forgiving you, but whether you can forgive yourself. - It doesn't take much energy to make the wrong decision. But to make the right one, you have to put every fiber of your being to it. - I know i have a lot to work on. But knowing that there's no hairy ass man in the clouds to judge me when I have little bit of fun on the expense of someone elses ignorance, makes life a whole lot easier. |

nomuse (not logged in) User ID: 2380183 United States 04/05/2012 08:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, technically, a perfectly full moon can not be visible during the day. At the exact moment at which the Moon is completely full, it must be 180' from the Sun. Therefor, it will rise above the horizon at the exact instant the Sun is setting. But the "Full Moon" we see in the skies is not necessarily this exact and perfect instant of time. It is a Moon that is within the spread of a day or so across that interval. And if you include a "practically" full Moon -- one that has just the tiniest slice missing -- then you get a full day or two on either side of that instant. And each day lets the Moon rise 40 minutes earlier (or later) than that one perfect moment. The OP first posted yesterday. Full Moon is tomorrow. At a first approximation, the Moon would rise above the horizon two hours before the Sun set. Which assuming the Sun is setting at near 6 PM, means the Moon is above the horizon and quite visible just about the time most people are getting off work. (Plus the Moon (and the Sun) are not points. They have width. Half a degree of width in fact. And it takes 24 hours for all 360 degrees of sky to pass. So even at that "one perfect instant" a good half of the setting Sun is going to still be visible even as the full Moon is poking up over the horizon.) |

"started noticing this" - that's the key point. How often did you even glance at teh sky before then? For the rest of us, the moon has been visible in daylight all our lives. It's just that we already knew, saw it regularly, and didn't think it was anything weird... |
