Define "right". Not trying to be picky, but there are a couple of definitions that weasely politicians (that is who we are talking about) squirm around to claim to be one thing and escape being accused of being another. Words are important, but in today’s world corrupt people keep changing the meanings of words to suit whatever their needs are to influence people and gain or retain power.

If “Right” is morality, then no. Examples: Sodomy and witchcraft use to be illegal in most states. No Republican would dare propose anything remotely close to that today. Those kinds of immorality are not only accepted now, but legally protected and as much as most Republicans are opposed to same sex marriage, those same people cower behind the Seinfeld line of “not that there is anything wrong with that” and a nervous chuckle when challenged and run straight for the lie of “separation of church and state” whenever any non-Christian tells them to.

If “Right” is constitutional government, then no. Example: The Patriot Act. Ever increasing freedom killing regulation in-spite of claiming to be for smaller more limited government.

If “Right” is in the direction of traditionalism, then no. Republicans have not moved back towards a more traditional government, morality, or culture. Like their “Left” counterparts they have moved further away from tradition to embrace constantly growing government, to accept more and more constantly degrading morality, and the depravity of wide open multiculturalism even when those cultures are in direct conflict.

No, the “”Left” (immoral, expansive government, non-traditional) screams that Republicans are dragging the country backwards when the truth is that the two are both moving in the same immoral, expansive government, non-traditional direction. The difference is that Republicans are getting there much slower than Democrats…. except maybe people like Larry Craig who was a Republican at the time he was busted for soliciting gay sex in an airport bathroom.

Look at just a few things that are common place and protected by law today that were seen as taboo and even illegal just 3-4 decades ago. Cursing on public television and radio was not allowed by law in the 70’s. Prime time TV is a cesspool now and hard core porn is free to anybody with an internet connection. No cop local or federal dared search you without probable cause. Been to an airport lately? Homosexuality was ridiculed and hidden for fear of exposure. Now they have parades and not one Republican would dare try to stop them. Witchcraft and or demonic possession was virtually unheard of in public, now they have whole TV series and movies about it.

Are Republicans trying to return the country to anything close to more innocent days when saying the “S” word (sex) in public made mothers put their hands over their kids ears? Nope. They are just barely slowing down the march towards depravity. That is, when they are not directly participating in it.
