I would say that anyone interested in Crowley should first read 'The confessions of Aleister Crowley', his autobiography, or 'hagiography', as he puts it. Also, his 'Eight lectures on yoga' was prepared for a room full of scientists, and is another that I found useful for decoding him. Something often forgotten is that he had a very wicked sense of humour; to illustrate, the 'confessions' tells of an unfortunate visiting reporter who was persuaded into being taken on a 'haggis hunt' near Crowley's house on the banks of Loch-ness, on this cold and misty night he was made to crawl silently on his belly through the marshes for hours.. |
