Quoting: Roentgen® along the same lines.. what are you planning to be doing in 30,000 years? The point I was making is that U235 is going to exist basically until this Earth is likely void of all humans... making it, mathematically, more horrid. I don't deny the awfulness of plutonium... but it is produced in significantly less quantity than U235 and because of that it logically is less of an issue in the grand scale of things. it isn't so much about the half life, more about the toxicity, measured in what humans have called LD50 Its' both..either way. you are right. it isn't going to go away, that's for sure. only think/best thing .. party on The thing that hath been, is That which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done:and there is no new thing under the Sun. An iconic animal that has become a symbol for global awareness of a melting arctic, polar bears are beginning to show up with hair loss and lesions. Polar bear researchers with the U.S. Geological Survey are only halfway into their annual survey in Alaska and they’ve already come across nine bears – six in Barrow and 3 in Kaktovik – with signs of alopecia and skin lesions. The seafloor is also completely recycled every 200 million years due to the ongoing process of plate tectonics and seafloor spreading, thereby leaving no useful indications beneath the ocean. With the fairly significant evidence that scientists have managed to accumulate, there are several proposed mechanisms for the extinction event, including both catastrophic and gradualistic processes (similar to those theorized for the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event). The former include large or multiple bolide impact events, increased volcanism, or sudden release of methane hydrates from the sea floor. The latter include sea-level change, anoxia, and increasing aridity.[12] Any hypothesis about the cause must explain the selectivity of the event, which primarily affected organisms with calcium carbonate skeletons; the long (4–6 million year) period before recovery started; and the minimal extent of biological mineralization (despite inorganic carbonates being deposited) once the recovery began' [link to en.wikipedia.org] The thing that hath been, is That which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done:and there is no new thing under the Sun. Kyshtym Disaster, USSR, 29 September 1957 Working conditions at Mayak resulted in severe health hazards and many accidents.[6] The most notable accident occurred on 29 September 1957, when the failure of the cooling system for a tank storing tens of thousands of tons of dissolved nuclear waste resulted in a chemical (non-nuclear) explosion having a force estimated at about 75 tons of TNT (310 gigajoules). This released 740 PBq (20 MCi) of fission products, of which 74 PBq (2 MCi) drifted off the site, creating a contaminated region of 15,000-20,000 km2 called the East Urals Radioactive trace.[1][2] Subsequently, at least 200 people died of radiation sickness, 10,000 people were evacuated from their homes, and 470,000 people were exposed to radiation. People "grew hysterical with fear with the incidence of unknown 'mysterious' diseases breaking out. Victims were seen with skin 'sloughing off' their faces, hands and other exposed parts of their bodies."[7] "Hundreds of square miles were left barren and unusable for decades and maybe centuries. Hundreds of people died, thousands were injured and surrounding areas were evacuated."[8] This nuclear accident, the Soviet Union's worst before the Chernobyl disaster, is categorised as a level 6 "serious accident" on the 0-7 International Nuclear Events Scale. |

Tepco is not alone in the Mess, there is the INCR, NISA, the NCA, MEXT and the UNSCEAR but i doubt that this is all a Free World had to offer! There are a few Consultants from different Countries too but they offer a Service and not a independent Brainstorming! On the other Side we have the physical Conditions, they do not change, no Matter if someone from France or someone from Tepco handle the Fuel! Tepco supported the SFP Nr. 4 a lot and i wrote it already: "They even think it is safer than before" but i am also not very comfortable with this Solution! I'm not saying it is'nt Fuku that may be the culprit but rather the fact that it has been a fact for a while now that Methane Hydrates have been on the move,Russian Scientists recently discovered plumes over a Mile Wide by the Hundreds(estimated to be far higher)rising in the Arctic Oceans.
