Four Beautiful Dragon Flies and Camoflaged Lizard in Nature.

I was out today around lunch and I ran across this Beautiful Dragon Fly eating a type of Bee. Does anyone know what kind of Dragon Fly this is?

Peace to all

I noticed this Lizard was trying to hide. I got lucky noticing this beautiful creature.

Great shot OP! I love dragonflies but I don't think I've ever seen one at prey like that. I've seen them mating before. We had a lot of different kinds in Minnesota, they have an acquatic phase so they like all the lakes, ponds and marshes there.

Little bright blue ones, those were common.

You did great with the close-up video, thanks for taking that and posting.

I always think of how in the times before the dinosaurs, there were huge dragonflies with three foot wingspans that ruled the earth.

I saw it land on the ground and I didn't want to scare it. I gently took out my camera and started recording. The length of the original video is over eleven minutes long. I stopped recording when only a wing from its pray was left. I cut the video just to show a bit of what I recorded because I know people would have lost interest in watching 11 minutes. Nature is wonderful.

Peace to everyone.

If it were bigger or you were smaller, it would gladly eat all your fleshy bits. It would have trouble with your bones though.

Geek note here.

If our planet were more oxygen rich they would be much bigger.

Something to do with, quote, "Dragonflies, locusts and some beetles rely on the second, more primitive, means of ventilation, autoconvective ventilation. This is a splendidly opaque way of saying that they create drafts when they flap their wings. Insects that depend on autoventilation can increase airflow in their trachea by increasing the frequency or amplitude of wing beats - they flap their wings harder. There is of course a catch here: beating wings demands energy, and the harder they beat the more energy is needed. Since energy production requires oxygen, and the availability of oxygen can only be increased by beating, which consumes the extra oxygen, dragonflies and other autoventilating insects may be uniquely susceptible to fluxes in oxygen levels."

Not sure if we would be smaller though.

When I used to catch bugs as a kid, one of my most rarest and treasured catches was the Giant Darner dragonfly.

They flew very fast and could evade my net swipes pretty easily. These things were huge, with about a 5" wingspan.

Re: Four Beautiful Dragon Flies and Camoflaged Lizard in Nature.
Do they eat wasps as well, because I haven't had a lot of bees around lately, but the wasps hang around because of the dog meat I put out for the dogs.

I had a teensy tiny spider, bit bigger than a pin head with a wasp caught in it's single strand web under a kitchen shelf, the wasp rolls and gets further entangled, and can only wave it's bottom end around futile like. This spider caught and consumed something 40 times its size.

I'll have to check back periodically to see what you have found in nature's menagerie then. I'm sure your finds will soon become an artistic film collection of unique assortments that will gain many fans who can appreciate the fruits of your most talent eye. :-)

hfThanks for the complement. I woke up last year after 39 years. I was into material BS along with TV, prescription drugs, and junk food. Since I cleaned up all that, something told me to pick up a camera and start living life instead of being a zombie.

I have a few more videos that I might just have to upload. Birds, Deer, and other natural beauties.

Peace to all

hfI would not doubt that! I am going to post a Green Fuzzy Worm I saw back in September at a local river. It may be a spy as well. Mean looking creature but very beautiful. I will have to find some a few more nature videos, everyone will enjoy. It is calming to me to spend time outside when I get a chance.
