Anonymous Coward User ID: 14268790 United States 04/12/2012 02:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe if they were actually the "best buy" they wouldn't be having problems. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5739241 Exactly. I can get better stuff that is cheaper elsewhere. Best Buy competed in the marketplace and lost. No big deal. You have zero empathy though for the thousands of employees that lost their jobs. Flooding the workforce with more unemployed. How many of those employees had families? Can you imagine how many Summer vacations have been canceled and kids will go without new clothes. The parents will be desperate to find work before school starts again Oh, the suffering! Something should be done. Perhaps the government should force Best Buy to keep their stores open. They could be given subsidies. Or we could deep-six free market capitalism once and for all!! |

You can buy the same thing at walmart for at least five bucks cheaper. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1501387 Yeah, and then you get to support the fucking Walmart whackjobs and their bizzaro religious funding schemes, just so that your lame-ass can save five bucks on a harddrive. Nice work, chump. When are you going to realize that you vote with your wallet? |
anonymous User ID: 14279273 United States 04/12/2012 04:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Let's be real here. The list has not been leaked except for maybe 7 stores. I won't believe the rest until they're posted. PS: As you can see, the 5 stores that they announced were definitely closing are not on the list...Pretty positive we can say this post is a bust. |
Ex bby employee User ID: 874593 United States 04/12/2012 07:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not all of the people who work at best buy are stupid...granted there is a large amount of them. The vendors actually provide Best Buy with modules that associates can take at work or at home(and be paid for the time) that educate them on their products. The problem is that you have a very few people in each store with the drive to want to know about what products they are offering. It doesn't help that all the managers talk about are credit apps and services. You definitely can't attach those to a sale if you don't even have the product knowledge to sound like you know what you are talking about. Honestly the best people in the store to ask for help was the merchandising team, which has since been done away with. I worked on this team and later supervised them. We were the first people to see anything new that came in. First thing we did was look up price, specs, reviews, and other information. We were the ones that could help you find anything in the store down to the smallest item. But of course Best Buy thought merchandising should be left to the sales team and/or outside cheap third party merchandisers(45 year olds who end up ask you how something goes together.) In my opinion there are a lot of young people working for Best Buy that with a little business acumen could run a store and make it profitable...but Beast Buy wants to keep the same managers in their jobs who haven't run a successful store in years...not to mention that they make 6 figures while doing so. |
Ex bby employee User ID: 874593 United States 04/12/2012 07:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Forgot to add to a previous post that before I left the company i was aware of some confidential information in regards to building leases of some of the stores in the Metro Atlanta area...Said stores are not profitable, have very high shrink trends(some at almost 2%,) and guess what the lease is up on the buildings they rent. |

I was in there a couple weeks ago ready to spend $2500 on a new 3D LED TV and stood there for 30 mins waiting for some help and not one of those fucks came. They stood there bullshittin. I found the manager and bitched and left. Wont go back either Quoting: TDJ have you ever stopped to think that YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY customer in the store and accosiates do get busy with other things. you probably wasted more time" bitching" out the manager and driving to and out of best buy than being patient and waiting for help, as you should at any other store you would go to. |

However, for every whiny prick on internet forums who is too proud or lazy to ask for help, there's another guy complaining about pushy salespeople not leaving them alone. It's almost comical. True, the majority of people at my store were high school or college students. But that doesn't mean they aren't paid to know about their products. If you'd rather go to Wal-Mart and shop for second-rate electronics from grocery store workers, or go to Fry's and deal with people who work on commission and can't speak English, go ahead. Or, try bitching on the internetz about not being ALLOWED to blow $2500 on a TV you don't need. That might work. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 12244660 United States 04/13/2012 02:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From a former Best Buy employee: Good Riddance. The stores have been going downhill since they started their fiscal year '12 plans. It's not a shocker to anyone who worked there or still works there, and honestly, the people losing their jobs will be better off on unemployment or finding work elsewhere. I worked at 585 in Pittsburgh PA. It sucked. A lot. One time one of my managers claimed he watched me smoke a cigarette for 14 minutes, and said I take too long to smoke. So I went home, and lit one up in front of a fan set to low, and timed it's burn. It took nine minutes to burn without a puff in a slight gust of wind. And it was windy when I smoked that 14 minute one. In closing: Good Riddance. That's what you get for treating the employees that are intelligent like shit, and firing the ones that don't wanna come in for 6 AM meetings on how to trick a customer into getting Best Buy Credit Cards that aren't on the schedule until the day before. Pwnd. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1491697 what the fuck is the point of having these people running around asking if you need help every 3 seconds, if theyre just going to lie to you when you ask them serious questions? i just wanted a small tv for my room, and my only real issue was that the box needed to be small enough to fit in my car because i didnt want to waste time or money renting a truck. i tell him that right off, and give him the measurements of my car to be sure and then we go through this whole 45 minute song and dance where he recommends various small tvs all of which look really out of date to me.. i settle on the best one and i even pay for the damn thing.. and he finally wheels out a box big enough for a whole family of homeless people to live in, when i point that out he blows me off, tells me the weird highschool drop out looking kid up front will help me "fit it" into my car, and disappears into the back and the bored dead-eyed mouth-breather kid is like "oh he probably meant the tv could fit if we take it out of the box, but you have to sign this paper saying if we take it out and it breaks then we cant take it back. maybe you should rent one of our trucks?" yeah.. right... lol i immediately walk over to customer service to return it even though it hasnt even left the store... and of course the manager or owner or whever walks over to hassle me and make sure "everything is ok?" and i blow the same sunshine up his butt that his employee gave me till he finally gives up and leaves me alone. later i went to a local mom&pop chain with only a few stores in our area.. asked the same questions and yet got EXACTLY what i asked for this time.. box fit like a glove in my car, lol...plus it was almost brand new, a larger tv than the best buy one, PLUS its freaking 3D with netflix, amazon instant, youtube, hulu, etc.. connectivity, and it was on sale! LOL yeah.. not setting foot in another one of those crap-houses.. the employees are too desperate to make sales. They missed one... my local store is the reason i will NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN. What size 'bedroom' TV were you looking for that you were worried that the box wouldn't fit in your car? Also, Best Buy employees don't get commission for sales so there isn't much incentive for them to persuade you to purchase something. Exactly what kind of bedroom sized TV did you need that has 3D and is Wi-Fi built in? and how much did you pay? |

Pwnd. Dude, you have no idea how ignorant you are. All you did with this post is prove everyone else's point. The real reason Best buy is closing (and it will completely close within the next 24 months IMHO) is twofold. (1) They can't compete with other B&M stores when they have such strict return policies. Why should I pay a "restocking fee" when I can return an electronic item I bought at target or walmart for example with no questions asked. (2) It's hard to stay in business when all you are is a showroom for buyers who will decide what they want in your store, then go home and buy it cheaper online. If you're a computer buyer, chances are, you're computer savvy. I went into a best buy with an online price for a TV, hoping to get a price match. they told me it wasn't one of their "legitimate" online competitors, so they wouldn't match the price. Needless to say I walked out and bought it from the online retailer. They do have a mixed bag of customer service personnel. Some are really passionate and helpful, but others are more concerned with getting their smoke breaks. Pretty much just like everywhere else you go. |

THEN you complain to a manager. What a dumb fucker you are. Plus you were willing to spend $2500 on a 3D TV. Holy shit. You give new meaning to the word "moran" Like they couldn't see him walking around looking over at them all the time. They are not getting paid to stand and chit chat. If you see someone looking at a tv and your job is to sell tvs then you ask them if they need help. My father used to be the store manager at a large retail chain. They sent him to stores that where crap and he got sales back up. Part of turning a profit is cutting the fat. If your standing around chatting with your work buddies with customers all over then he wrote them up. Three times being caught - fired. When we were out and this happened to him he would go get the manager as well. Show them the group of people standing around tell the manager he would have bought something if someone would have helped. No scene, no yelling. Just pulling the person aside to let them know. Then would leave. OK as a former employee I have to say we had no incentive to help customers. Literally none. I completely understand the concept of you get paid, work. Think about your jobs. If you were getting paid $9.00/hr to listen to people or to do nothing what would you do? At one point I was the top ranked sales person in my department and while I was there our department was in the top 10 of the company. Employees really get treated like shit there. We got hounded by both customers and managers and if you did a great job guess what you got? NOTHING and if you did a shitty job guess what you got NOTHING... Their price caps of what they are willing to pay an employee allow their best employees to leave while keeping the worst there. |
