FULL moon Waning from the TOP half, NOT side half

this is NOT supposed to be the cycle of the moon. farmers almanac has never shown pictures of the moon waning from the top or the bottom the way it has been recently!

Is this not normal?

no the moon from the us has always been crecent not from the top down.

no not normal at all, for a few years now. i often wonder if it had anything to do with us blowing up the moon a few years ago

Yet again, someone who's never watched the moon for more than 2 minutes a month is surprised by what everyone else takes as a normal phenomenon.

"Field rotation" - look it up, learn something...

i disagree. i ve watched the moon my entire life and i remember specifically the moon always waning either right to left or vice verse NEVER from teh top to bottom.

show me proof that this is how it has always been please, i would love to be proven wrong

if you do a search on the topic, it has been happening for about a year or so now, maybe more.

first time I saw it I about freaked when the moon was a big smile.

yeh, it's not supposed to happen like this in the US. what's crazy is the level of professional silence about it.

i just want to know if its ALWAYS been like this then WHY are there no pictures or diagrams depicting this phase of the moon? why are there NO images. except there are if you live at the equator!

wonder if it has anything to do with the strangely warm winter we had in the northern hemisphere?

well, I had never seen it like that until about a year ago and I am over 60 and have always like looking at the moon and never saw it before

thank you! there has been a lot of discussion about it on glp the past few years and I am still wierded out by it. but there are also so many people that say its normal.

I agree it's rather strange and a little scary. If this is "normal" for locations at the equator as someone mentioned, then common sense would point to the earth's axis moving a lot faster than anyone who knows is letting on?

Those of you who think something is out of kilter, I suggest you wait 6 hours and observe the moon again.

Compare that with what you are seeing now.

It may occur to you that 6 hours is a quarter of a day, and that 90 degrees is a quarter of a rotation.
The importance of this will become apparent at your second observation in 6 hours time.

The waning is from the right in the northern hemi and left in the southern for april. That's according to these charts.

yes, the pics show it left or right not top or bottom

Listen, your argument is that no one ever looked at the moon at this time before to see this and therefore if they look at it at another time of day it will be like it should?

Not a good argument for people that have looked at the moon there whole lives at different times of days and seasons and have 'never' seen it wane from the top as it does now

I think that they have seen it wane from the "top" many times, but have not noticed it as being odd... not until now, after reading a few threads like this on GLP (and other places).

That's because the apparent rotation (field rotation) is different for different observers.

If you're watching the rising moon, it will be rotated anti-clockwise, if you're watching the setting moon it will be rotated clockwise. Now, explain how they can show that on moon phase charts.

The charts are shown for an "ideal" due south, culmination moon.

I can't believe this comes up so often nowadays, when it's perfectly simple, has always happened, and always will happen. It's an effect of the geometry of standing on a rotating sphere, watching something in the sky. It happens with planets, constellations, and even the sun (if you use a solar telescope to look).

Nobody, and I mean nobody, has ever "debunked" the explanation of field rotation. Show me the geometry, the mathematics, that says you shouldn't see field rotation, and maybe I'll believe you...

I'm an amateur astronomer, have spent the last 45 years observing, and I've seen the rotation of teh moon, planets, constellations all that time, and never thought anything of it.

People who don't regularly look at the sky, and then read some nonsense on GLP, could easily think something odd was happening, but they really have no experience to judge it by...

Yes your right..I put that up so the thread took a different perspective. The moon and earth are in there right place..there hasn't been a tilt.
People are to obsessed with doom and conspiracy fields and it's clouding there minds.
