When we attacked Iraq they offered to sit down and negotiate with us and were open to inspections but Bush turned them down. A great opportunity wasted

To avoid an Israeli strike:
1) Iran must disassemble their Fordo nuclear plant.
2) Stop uranium enrichment capable of being upgraded to weapons' grade fuel.

With a super-summit scheduled later this week in Turkey, these two conditions are the consessions REQUIRED by the U.S. and Israel to avoid war. Today, Iran, ahead of the summit, said "Nyet" to both conditions.

Iran has never attacked anyone,
We are currently at peace, and if peace is broken, it will be because of Israel or America.

If they nuke someone, turn them into a glass factory by all means. Until that time, leave them alone, like we have left Pakistan alone.

I think you're right in your premise that the key issues are off the table; but I would submit that they are for both sides.

The West does not want a nuclear Iran which will become a default counterweight to Saudi/Israeli influence in the region and Iran's main foreign policy objective in the medium term is to become exactly that sort of regional power.

You can not compromise with someone who does not share any of your goals. Absent a significant change in either the West's leadership or the Iranian leadership, armed conflict is inevitable.

Another stupid article. iamwith

1) Fordo's been under IAEA's watchdogs since the beginning and it's their right to have it running, The real reason could be the fact that Fordo facility is going be their hardest target in case of a military strike against Iran.

2) The enrichment is already at 20% which is not in violation of the NPT.

Question: If Israel has 400 nukes and uses say at least 350 of them on Iran, who thinks there would be much left to fight back?

Seriously - 350 nukes.. level most population centers leaving none left to fight back.

Someone has to cave in and lose face this week.

Even if Obama caves in, Israel likely won't. They will go it alone, believing Iran's nuclear strategy poses an existential threat. A show of weakness from Israel will only increase their sense of peril. Netanyahu is Samson-like in his resolve.

Neither can Iran's regime afford to show weakness, especially to their own citizens, who favor an uprising. Besides, it sounds like Iran's religious leader believes the upcoming war will reveal their anointed Madhi, the 12th Imam.

The region needs a serious peace broker, a miracle worker who can somehow someway give all sides a diplomatic excuse out of this slippery slope to war. Who? Hillary Clinton?

Passover ends this week. The summit is scheduled for the end of this week. Russia, China and the U.S. are playing chess games with their ships and subs.

It's all coming down to the wire, and the situation looks desperately perilous. Some will say, Game on. Some will say, Doom on. What sayest thou?

IMO, Iran had nukes back in 2009 and didn't use them.
I believe N. Korea will use them in anger this month.
Since the world's eyes would be on N. Korea, that is when Israel, USA, Canada, and UK will attack Iran. Lets face it, if Iran was a threat, the above nations would have attacked already. The reason for going into Iran is oil and Iran's disregard to the dollar and trading oil for gold.

Re: Iran won't negotiate on key issues. Last chance for peace evaporates.
The antagonistic warmongers have had at least two opportunities to let this calm down and they took neither ! The first was when Amano inspected their Nuke sites . Instead of telling lies , Obama should have told him to tell the truth , that Iran's Nuclear works were peaceful .

The second was when the Ayatollah gave his word Iran would not build a Nuke . Obama could have announced to the World that he was going to take his word and this could have all blown over . Everyone knows who the shit stirrers are and who is dangerous and it is not Iran !

what has changed this past year?

i thought it was well estabilshed that starting a nuclear war was a no-brainer, that no one wins, everyone dies, hence the previous agreements to reduce stockpiles, non proliferation treaties etc.

what seems to have changed is that since the accident at Fukushima, it seems to have sparked a 'fuck it lets let rip and blow the world to kingdom come attitude'
