Listen everybody, I am a Pitt Student. Yes, the University has clamped down on many locations, yes students and professors are upset over this situation. They are upset, not because they are worried but because they are missing classes and with finals so close many haven't had time to finish their work.
The students are annoyed because they are being forced out of their dorms in the middle of the night, they are finding out while driving to the university that a bomb sweeping team is in they're building and they are not allowed to enter.
When you have over 40 threats being called in over the past two weeks it becomes an issue of the threats being an annoyance verse that of it being a real threat.
Even tonight, CMU police contacted the Pitt Police, because a note was left at the Starbucks on Forbes and Craig. Point Park College which is located some 1.5 miles down fifth ave from Pitt had a bomb threat called in.
So what does this tell us? Perhaps it is copycat or it is a person who feels they have the power over the University and the city.
Secondly, the City was recently given an F by the federal government as being prepared to handle a biological terrorist attack. Could this actually be a person who is taking advantage of this?
Third, we have two historic dates coming up next Thursday and Friday. Waco/Oklahoma City-Columbine.
Is this individual waiting to see if and how law enforcement is going to handle this situation before acting on their threats?
I spoke to a fireman today who said the University had every reason to take this threat serious and they needed to implement the search because they believe the threats could become real before the end of the semester. If the individual is actually going to act, they he will act with in the next two weeks, before finals start.
Has anybody heard about 4/11 being a threat day? I haven't but he mentioned that, stating that 4/11 could be a day to stay vigilant.
I don't know if I believe that but he did seem credible.
Copycat or not, real threat or not, this is a real situation and I believe the University is doing the right thing. They could do more by allowing the students to get better information about the situation rather than having to get it from outsiders on message boards.
