Re: WARNING Foolish Virgins: Legalists and The Unrepentant

I'm not saying it isn't a prophecy for 'end-times.' I'm actually trying to say that it isn't a complete new concept. Jeremiah was told this would happen.

Jeremiah would have understood that this writing on the heart would include what was revealed in the law and through the prophets.

Jesus would have known - being a jewish - that he was quoting Jeremiah and that the jewish people would understand the this writing on the heart would include what Jeremiah thought it would.

Wow. What a convoluted way to try and explain something. Hope I made sense. :)

Of course, I should have proof read before posting.

Insert "being a jewish" (for being a jewish)

:)

Re: WARNING Foolish Virgins: Legalists and The Unrepentant
this scripture should raise chills on the backs of christians' necks:

Hebrews 10: 26For if we sin purposely after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a slaughter offering for sins,

27 but some fearsome anticipation of judgment, and a fierce fire which is about to consume the opponents.

28 Anyone who has disregarded the Torah of Mosheh dies without compassion on the witness of two or three witnesses.

29 How much worse punishment do you think shall he deserve who has trampled the Son of Elohim underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was set apart as common, and insulted the Spirit of favour?

Rejection of Torah is considered rebellion against the Most High.

This rebellion is the "falling away" spoken of in 2 Thess. This same lawlessness allows the man of sin to come to reign.
 Quoting: Shamar

No, it doesn't "raise chills on my back" because those are false christians. No born again Christian, that has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit goes around killing people, stealing from people, worshiping idols, and doing other terrible things. It's not even possible for a spirit filled person to do that.

Again........I just read the entire chapter of Hebrews 10 as you've missed the entire point. In that chapter Jesus talks about the new covenant in verse 16

“This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds."

He is speaking about the new Law of Love, Mercy & Forgiveness. That is WHY Jesus came. It's a new covenant, a new creation in Christ.
.

 Quoting: Lisa*Lisa

Let me just point out one thing Lisa*Lisa:

The Lord speaking of writing the law into the hearts of the people was mentioned way back in Jeremiah's day:

Jer 31:33:But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

This was not a sudden and new concept.

There is no "New Law of Love, Mercy & Forgiveness." The 'new' commandment you mentioned at the beginning of this thread is found in the Old Testament:

Duet. 11:13 - And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul..."

and

Lev 19:18 - Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

I understand what you are saying - I honestly do. However, the law (as in the commandments give by the finger of God - those placed inside the ark of the covenant which signified Christ's redemption for us) is still in force. Otherwise why would John have said:

1 John 2:3 - And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

The 10 commandments do indeed show us how we love - both God and our fellow man.

Yet, you are right that we are free in Christ. We are free to love Him and to obey Him, but have an advocate if/when we fall. He is on our side.

Why wouldn't I want to honor and love Him by keeping them? Or do you believe that it is legalism to Honor your parents? That command is part of the law. The perfect law of Liberty as James states. (James 1:25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.)

My obedience does not save me. It honors the Father and the Son. I have nothing to recommend me. Even my righteousness is filthy rags. But I do have the capacity to do all in my power to show the world whom I serve. If that is called legalism, then I must be a legalist - even as Jesus was/is.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 904802

Quite frankly, this thread "could" go on forever, but that does not mean that it "should". After both sides have made their point, multiple times, further stating it just ends up in a battle of wills, and for that reason I've tried to end the conversation with my sister above because i see it going nowhere good.

I don't speak about something that I don't know. Many here think I've been a christian all my life, and nothing could be further from the truth then that. I've delved into just about every path from a religious stand point, even the messianic movement from which I'm still recovering from spiritually. I can say it made me spiritually sick, and it has done the same for many others out there, I'm not the only one.

So, I know the truth, I've stated it multiple times and those who are receptive to it, great. Those who aren't, well......nothing more I can say about it now. I'm not interested in arguing because that leads to more bad feelings and I think there is enough of that already on this forum.

So....peace out....have the "last word" if you want, or if someone else wants, I honestly don't care. Last words aren't important to me, but the truth is.

Wow. I never passed judgment on you, merely asked you to consider things in a different way than you presented.

I don't want the last word. I mean, I do like to win a debate, but if it brings dishonor to God than i don't want it. It appears that you have - with your words to me - declared that you will have the last word by declaring I am combating you.

I am not messianic. I am sorry it made your spirit sick. I don't know much about it honestly. It would have been nice if you hadn't jumped to that conclusion.

I too have delved into this because of my upbringing. I am SDA and have been called legalist and all sorts of other names for so long that I began to really question things. It was through my study that I have learned to love this law because it shows the character of God. I fear for Christians who throw away the law in order to feel free.

Peace to you too - although I kinda doubt you really wish me any peace. :)

Lisa , why do you listen to some random person's teaching on the internet instead of your Savior ? It is completely bizarre !
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14048696

I do listen to Jesus's words, and these are His words.

1. Love God with your whole heart
2. Love your neighbor as yourself

That's it! Yet, the spiritually weak and deceived people try to tell you that you have to do this, you have to do that, they try and make a "salvation list" and that's not from God.

Lets read this in the correct context . He said they are the two greatest Commandments , not the only Commandments !

"22:34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. 22:35 Then one of themM, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:34-40 KJV)

Re: WARNING Foolish Virgins: Legalists and The Unrepentant
Ezekiel Chp 36 is actually a good example of God's grace. God will defend His word and promise that He made to Abraham for his act of faith and obedience (Gen 22)

...not for anything good about the people of Israel (known in Scripture as a stiff-necked people).......but for His name's sake and promises made to Abraham.

Unmerited favor is bestowed upon the remnant preserved......those who survive the time of Jacob's trouble.

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying: "Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds; to Me their way was like the uncleanness of a woman in her customary impurity.

"Therefore I poured out My fury on them for the blood they had shed on the land, and for their idols with which they had defiled it.

"So I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the countries; I judged them according to their ways and their deeds.

"When they came to the nations, wherever they went, they profaned My holy name---when they said of them, 'These are the people of the Lord, and yet they have gone out of His land.'

"But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations wherever they went.

"Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord God: "I do not do this for your sake. O Israel, but for My holy name's sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went.

"And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord," says the Lord God, when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.

"For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into you own land.

"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

"I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

"David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them.

"Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt, and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children's children, forever, and My servant David shall be their prince forever.

(Israel was constantly rebelling against God....even after seeing His deliverance and miracles with their own eyes. They could not follow God properly in their own flesh. In the end times......they will be indwelt by the Spirit.....which will enable them to walk with God in a proper fashion......out of love for Him).

My first Christmas season on this path I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder over the whole thing. Shabbat service happened to be on Christmas. The Rabbi (I personally don't like addressing with this term, but us it for convenience) stated in the sermon before the Torah portion something to the effect of, "Many of us here reject the Christmas idea, others embrace it. Please, don't let it be a division among His people." ... and I felt ashamed.

Meh.

I try so hard to not push my own brand of belief upon others. I personally abhor when others do it to me. Hence, I try to not be a hypocrite.

Let's see, just from the sins you committed in your post, you need to repent from cursing, blasphemy, judging others, placing spells on others.

See? You committed at least four sins with a one minute post.

We all sin. And we are not equal with God. We are His creation.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14098928

For starters, I did NOT say I was equal with God. I said i was of equal KIND and QUALITY. Secondly, the concept of sin, punishable by torture in hell forever, was created by the CHURCH designed to control and manipulate the masses. "Sin" is not a thing any more than "deed" is a thing, or "act" is a thing. To sin is to fall short of a goal. It is not some inky black tar-like substance floating around in space. So, who made 'falling short of a goal'? No one made it. Either you reach your goal or you don't.

A follower of the Lord should do their best to please Him. For example, His commands:

1. Fear not

2. Do not worry.

These are perhaps the most common of emotions that can easily sneak up upon us living in this world.

But the prescription for this is given in Phil 4: 6-7

Catch the emotion.........and then whatever is bothering you.......turn it over to God......and have faith that He will take care of it. Ask for the help of the Spirit to combat these emotions. Sing praises to the Lord.

Fear and anxiety.....disobeying a command.....a sin.

Fear and anxiety......the opposite of faith.

We as humans constantly stumble......but His shed blood is sufficient payment for our many sins. Praise God

There is evil in the flesh....part of our sin nature. And sin can be aroused by the law. Be careful.

I once was involved in tithing. But gradually over time I began to observe something. I began to feel superior to those who did not tithe. And I also expected something extra from God because of my tithes. I also become a bit less cheerful about giving over time.

Becoming involved in tithing resulted in pride......a sin.

"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."

I then learned how giving should be:

"So let each one give as he purpose in his heart, not grudgingly or of compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver."

We are all wretched sinners.......none better than another.

Saved only by God's grace......and the shed blood of our Lord.

There's so many things that people think they know about scripture that is completely inaccurate.

The whole nativity story that is passed around during December is made up of whole cloth.

Heh, most modern Christians think that 2 of every animal was taken upon the ark during the Great Flood.

To go even deeper, most don't even comprehend the entire picture of what the whole coming of the suffering servant fulfilled, what the Ruach fulfilled and what remains to be fulfilled by the end times with the return of the conquering King when He returns to claim His spiritual Bride.

But, par the course, I digress. ;)

Forgive me for butting in since I am not Lisa*Lisa, but I'm really enjoying this thread so I hope you don't mind if I respond.

When you say hell was created by the Church - what exactly do you mean? Do you mean any Christian?

Eternal torture in hell is not biblical - yes, I know that most denominations teach that, but that doesn't make it a fact. I do believe that at one time the Church (specifically the Roman Catholic Church) held such power that they could manipulate the Bible to say what they wanted it to say in order to control people. God will address that, but their atrocities do not negate the reality of sin.

If you believe the Bible, sin is transgression of the law. To clarify, when I say law, I mean the 10 commandments specifically. Jesus said that when the comforter came, he would convict the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgement (John 16:8). Ezekiel 18:20 says the soul that sinneth shall die; so sin is more than just not hitting a goal.

Or I could be totally misunderstanding what you're saying. True, sin is not a tar-like substance. It is rejecting the way, the truth, the light, the life.
