While the 10k Sony layoffs are legit, you're just fearmongering with that 40k AT&T number. Those are the union employees who are "working without a contract" while the final negotiations take place. This happens every 3 years and is essentially just a staring contest between the company and the union. Those 40k people will keep their jobs.
