Tookie Williams, highly acclaimed children´s book writer...

"There is not a better example of anyone turning their life around than this man.If we kill him, remember, we are not killing a gang member, we are killing a reformed gang member, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, a children´s writer and a model prisoner who has spent many, many years in prison.We will no longer be able to say we are a forgiving moralistic people. We will be no better than the so-called terrorists we say we are hunting down every day. If you are forbidden for speaking out about anything that does not concern our organization, then feel free to send my e-mail around to anyone you would like to send it too.With all the advocates and organizations we have in this country, regardless of what you are fighting for, surely we can all stop and take the time to write a letter on this man´s behalf. This cannot be a life wasted.If you take the time to write a letter on his behalf please send me a copy so that I can compile them and get them to the National media outlets. Lets use our resources to get this done. December 13 is not far away. For this holiday season, lets give the gift of life. Lets ask for the life of Tookie Williams to be spared. He has done more in prison than may of us will ever do out here.Thank you so much.



Tookie Williams, co-founder of the infamous Crips gang, was convicted in 1981 for the murder of four people. Unless Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger grants clemency, he will be executed on December 13, 2005.

Williams deeply regrets his gang involvement but has always maintained his innocence of these crimes. In fact no physical evidence ever pointed to his involvement.

But it is Williams´ activities in prison that have drawn an international outcry about his pending execution. While on death row at San Quentin State Prison, Tookie Williams has written nine highly-acclaimed children´s books that educate young people about avoiding gangs, crime and incarceration. His
Tookie Protocol For Peace < [link to www.tookie.com] has helped reduce gang violence. His children´s books and memoir, Blue Rage, Black Redemption < [link to www.tookie.com] , have received multiple nominations for the Nobel Peace and Literature prizes.

According to e-mails to [email protected] from youth, parents, teachers and law enforcement officials, Tookie has saved the lives of over 150,000 youth.
This summer he was even recognized by President Bush when he received a presidential award for his volunteer work.

In 2002, a federal court rejected Tookie´s appeal against his sentence but recommended clemency. Time is now running out. Unless Gov. Schwarzenegger grants clemency, Stan Tookie Williams will die December 13 - one of three California men scheduled for execution in the next two months.

In their petition for clemency, Tookie´s lawyers said: "This petition is about redemption, rehabilitation and hope. It is about a single man, a prisoner for a quarter century, who found purpose while facing death by execution. It is about the positive impact one man can have on the lives of others, even from Death Row."
