UPDATE:- Haven't found him yet. Hoping he will give himself up.

:104:

NT hunt for suspected killer continues

A suspected killer with military training continues to elude a massive manhunt in dense bushland near Darwin.
NORTHERN Territory police on Wednesday urged Jonathon Andrew Stenberg, 46, to give himself up as they scoured the Berry Springs area for the former Australian Defence Force member suspected of beheading Edward "Ned" Kelly, 54, last week.
Mr Kelly's decapitated body was found at his home at Broadwater, on the NSW north coast, on June 21. NSW police, who are investigating the murder, have not yet found his head.
More than 100 NT police have been hunting for Stenberg in the rural area on Darwin's outskirts since they found his abandoned vehicle there on Tuesday, acting on information from NSW police.

And WOW! If anyone has the energy this one might deserve a thread of it's own. I'll bump it for ya.

SA signs co-operation deal with China

South Australia and China have signed an agreement on trade and economic co-operation that the state government says is the first of its kind in Australia.
PREMIER Jay Weatherill said the memorandum of understanding established a forum for regular consultation with the Chinese embassy in Australia to discuss bilateral trade and economic co-operation, major trade projects and investment opportunities.
"This is a landmark next step in deepening the relationship between South Australia and China," Mr Weatherill said in a statement.
"It is crucial that we have a strong relationship with China because it is already our largest export destination and it will soon become the largest economy in the world.
"China's growing middle class will be a strong source of demand for our premium food and professional services and its growing urbanisation will continue the demand for our natural resources."
The first meeting under the terms of the agreement took place after the signing in Adelaide on Wednesday and involved the premier, Chinese Ambassador Chen Yuming and senior government and embassy officials.
The South Australian opposition said the agreement with China was just to continue meeting and could not be described as a trade deal.
Trade spokesman Steven Marshall said the state government had dropped the ball on trade with China and should reopen its office in Hong Kong which was closed in 2005.
"Hong Kong is one of the busiest import and export markets in China; it seems extraordinary not to have a dedicated presence there," Mr Marshall said in a statement.
SA Minister for Manufacturing, Innovation and Trade Tom Koutsantonis told AAP that Mr Marshall needed to check his facts about the state's overseas trade representation in China.
"South Australia operates commercial offices in Shanghai and Jinan and we also continue to have a commercial representative in Hong Kong," Mr Koutsantonis said.

Native title granted for 30,000sq km in NT

During his 87 years Aboriginal man Stephen Roberts has had to endure seeing much of his ancestral lands under control of other people.
BUT on Wednesday he shook the hands of Federal Court judge Bruce Lander, as he was told one of Australia's largest native title land claims had been determined in favour of his people.
"I think it is a historic day - I am happy," Mr Roberts said.
It has been a long process. His people began the native title action in 2000.
"The land to me is important It is where my dreamtime stories are," he said.
The local Mudburra and Jingili people now have rights to access the land, conduct ceremonies and hunt on it.
Existing pastoralists will be able to continue their operations but will have to consult the traditional owners on some matters.
Several parcels of land were included in the determination, totalling nearly 30,000 sq km in an area north of Tennant Creek and south of Katherine.
Chief executive of the Northern Land Council, Kim Hill, said the Native Title Act contained a number of road blocks which made negotiations a drawn-out process.
But now a determination has been made in favour of the traditional owners, they will have a right to have a say over things including natural resources that may be buried beneath the area's red soils.
"There is a petroleum interest, particularly gas and oil," Mr Hill said.
"So if those are viable no doubt these traditional owners will be at the table," he added.
In all, 10 cattle stations are affected by Wednesday's court ruling, which was made at a special ceremonial sitting of the Federal Court in Newcastle Waters, about 700 km south of Darwin.
Indigenous people were also granted some native title rights over the entire town of Daly Waters.
Gregory Jackson expressed his delight that the next generation of his family will have rights to land that he hasn't enjoyed.
"It took us years and years to fight for the place," Mr Jackson said.
"Today is a special day for us - the old people and the young fellas," he said.
Val Dyer, who has helped run Hayfield Station since 1974, said the native title process went smoothly.
"We are accustomed to them (Aboriginal people)," she said.
"We have worked with them for a very long period of time and we haven't had too many issues," Ms Dyer said.
Justice Lander said he was grateful and privileged to make the native title determination at a court sitting in Aboriginal land.

'Nuckin Futs' gets the green light from Australians
THE controversial snack food "Nuckin Futs" is set to go ahead after no Australians lodged any official complaint with the trademarks office.
The "scandalous" brand name – a spoonerism of “f…in nuts” – attracted widespread publicity earlier this year after news.com.au revealed the trademark examiner had accepted it for the register pending a three-month “opposition period”.

Jamie White, solicitor director of law firm Pod Legal, who submitted the application on behalf of his Gold Coast client, said while he had received a number of emails personally no one had officially opposed it.

“Nobody took five minutes out of their day to actually oppose it after all the [abusive] emails we received," Mr White said. “So really do people think it’s that scandalous and really does it impact them at all?”

“People may have been shocked by the trademark but not offended enough to put a stop to it.”

Mr White is set to lodge the trademark officially today after successfully arguing his case that "Nuckin Futs" was not offensive because it was commonplace in everyday Australian language.

Until now it could have been opposed by any member of the public who wanted to send a complaint to IP Australia.

The company behind Nucking Futs is now clear to start production of the nutty snack. It has also lodged the trademark for consideration in the UK.

Other similar registered trademarks in Australia:
F…ERWARE
FAR KEW
FARKEN AWESOME

Other cases in the US and UK
FUKU: This was declined by the United States TM Office. It relates to a Japanese restaurant. It is currently under appeal.

LMFAO: This was declined by the United States TM Office as the TM Examiner was of the view that it was an acronym for “Laughing My F…ing Ass Off”. However, the applicant for LMFAO (the music band) has recently filed further applications for LMFAO as another party was successful in doing so as they advised the Examiner that it was in fact an acronym for “Laughing My Freaking Ass Off”.

KNUCKINGFACKERED: Was accepted and registered as a trademark in the UK.

I-FUK-U: This is a new application in the UK and relates to clothing and accessories. Not yet examined by the TM Examiner.

MINDF…: This is a new application in the UK. Not yet examined by the TM Examiner

Hey there AwakeInTassy!

My folks live in Swansea, beautiful necks of the woods.

Great idea for a thread.

I'd like to take folks towards Pine Gap, the US sovereign territory, smack bang in the middle of OZ. Not because of the controversial nature of the place, but for what is around the area, and known to the ancient Aborigine.

It is a place of power, and many tribes believe the birthplace of all life.

If you have google Earth, paste these co-ordinates in to the search bar, otherwise, just paste them in a google search bar and you will see a flat map.

23°50'38.90"S 133°54'26.46"E

23°49'16.97"S 133°53'23.20"E

23°48'22.22"S 133°52'8.72"E

23°46'16.60"S 133°52'33.50"E

- just a few, there are hundreds of these in the region.
What are they? well, they are giant spirals drawn in the desert, many over a hundred metres across, and all anti clockwise. Most quite perfect. All very old.

Usually, a small spiral will signify 'water'. i.e. dig here and you'll find water.

But these giants are clustered in one region. No visible water or rivers where they are ... but 100% there is a massive aquifer below.

The water down there is rumoured to create life.

After discussing this with some locals, the most interesting thing they said, was that what they were digging (drilling) for at Lake Vostok was the same stuff. Pure, Earth energised water. Nothing more, nothing less. Just pure water. With the ability to create life.

I've looked for more symbols of this nature, and many exist about the planet, and curiously, have water sources or aquifers below. Despite being drawn by different cultures.

I hang out on the bezerk thread, and the ramifications of this are amazing, in relation to that thread.

Anyhow, just thought I would share some interesting co-ords. Plenty of other 'interesting' things in that region too, including 'why' Pine Gap was built where it was.

These spirals have a direct correlation to events occuring this year and beyond too BTW!

** A tip, in the 'view' tag on google Earth there is a function called 'time-slide'. It allows you to see earlier sattelite photos of what you are looking at. Some times there is more greenery, sometimes a different time of day, and these things stand out even more amazingly! Have fun.

I would love to visit there. What a wonderful place. Another website called (I think?) Mysterious Australia.I will try to find the link. Spots like easter island statues in queensland.
Swansea is a lovely place too, but not in summer when it is filled with tourist, (we call them terrorists).

Eight days, seven boats, 656 arrivals
Seven boats carrying 656 asylum-seekers and crew have arrived on Christmas Island in the past eight days, according to Department of Immigration and Citizenship figures.

The island's five detention centres are now at surge capacity, with more than 12-hundred so-called irregular maritime arrivals.

This figure does not include an estimated 230 people rescued from two boats, including one that sank north of Christmas Island yesterday.

The facility 16-hundred kilometres off Western Australia's northwest coast, can normally house 950 detainees and has a temporary maximum capacity of two-thousand.

Man pulls fisherman from croc's jaws
A tranquil afternoon's fishing in far north Queensland last year ended with Kevin Beven pulling a man from a crocodile's jaws.

The man was screaming for help from the Weipa creek while the Rio Tinto maintenance officer scoured the area for him.

Mr Beven could hear him, but couldn't see him, so he started yelling back.

'I asked him if he was on the pub or the caravan side (of the creek) and then I drove to him,' Mr Beven said.

He found the man, who had been fishing nearby, clinging to mangrove roots after the three-metre croc clenched its jaws around his legs.

Mr Beven pulled him out of the croc's mouth and he and the local indigenous men, the Nappa people, carried him to an ambulance.

'I didn't even think about it, I just did what I had to do,' Mr Beven said.

Day of reckoning approaching: scientists warn New Zealand’s Alpine fault about due for a 8.0 magnitude earthquake
Posted on June 28, 2012

[link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]
faultline map

June 28, 2012 – NEW ZEALAND – GNS Science and University of Nevada-Reno scientists have found that the southern part of the 800 kilometre-long fault which runs along the western edge of the Southern Alps from Marlborough to Milford Sound causes quakes of around magnitude 8 every 330 years on average. Dating leaves and seeds from a river terrace at Hokuri Creek near Lake McKerrow in far northwestern Southland, just north of Milford Sound, revealed 24 Alpine Fault quakes between 6000BC and the present. Other research has found the most recent was in 1717, meaning the next may be only 30 or 40 years away, based on averages. Professor Richard Norris, from the geology department at Otago University, said the Alpine Fault had the highest level of probability for rupture of any fault in New Zealand. “Westland obviously is at high risk, with widespread damage likely and roads, bridges and other transport links likely to be badly affected (as well as the tourist trade),” he said. The fault crossed the main West Coast road in many places, and with an estimated 8m displacement would completely destroy it. “Intensities further east in places like Queenstown, Te Anau, Wanaka and Mt Cook will be high enough to cause landslips and do damage,” Norris said. “Further east in the major cities of Christchurch and Dunedin, the intensities will be lower but the duration of shaking could still be sufficient to damage poorly constructed buildings…and possibly cause some liquefaction.” Places such as Nelson, Wellington and Invercargill could also expect to feel some shaking. Project leader Kelvin Berryman of GNS Science said “a major earthquake in the near future would not be a surprise. Equally it could be up to 100 years away. The bottom line is, if not in our lifetimes then increasingly likely in our children’s or our grandchildren’s.” The study’s findings, published today in the journal Science, were new and internationally significant, Berryman said. Auckland University biostatics professor Thomas Lumley said the intervals between quakes on the Alpine Fault tended to be quite close to the average interval, with relatively little spread. –Stuff

I did some more research on other possible volcanic events of note around 3500 years ago. The number of occurrences is a bit eerie. I am sure there are more, this was what I could find in under 10 minutes. Judge for yourself:

The Eruption of Thera site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history 3500 years ago.

Rincón de la Vieja Volcano is an active andesitic complex volcano in north-western Costa Rica, about 25 km from Liberia, in the province of Guanacaste. Little is known about Rincón de la Vieja's early eruptive history. It lies within a larger caldera, which indicates that a very large eruption probably occurred thousands of years ago. Analysis of nearby pyroclastic flow deposits shows that they were erupted in a moderately large eruption about 3500 years ago

Mt.St.Helens happened 3500 years ago which produced 13 times more material than in 1980.

Hayes Volcano Southcentral Alaska
1500 BC Hayes Volcano was largely destroyed in its last eruption about 3500 years ago and is difficult to detect, even from the air.

It is believed Chato first erupted 38,000 years ago during the Pleistocene period and last erupted about 3,500 years ago. Costa rica

Aniakchak (Alaska) erupted catastrophically about 3500 years ago and has exhibited much post-caldera activity. It is considered active, and consists of a 10 km-wide by 0.5 to 1.0 km deep caldera that was formed during this major eruptive event.

I am sure there are more but you get the idea. thoughts?
