The infrastructure needed to extract the rods has been damaged.

The rods need to be kept within the coolant water AT ALL TIMES. The zirconium reacts with oxygen (air) by catching fire!!

The rods are extremely hot and very very very radioactive. The coolant water also acts as a shield.

There isnt anywhere to put them if you did extract them.

These little facts are the reason among many why they havent pulled any out yet. I didnt know it, but read recently that the common fuel pool is only 50 meters away.
And it contains over 6000 rods. The scenario is scary. It wont take much for the sfp to collapse. Even last year they were saying that concrete was "dropping" down from the pool.
If it does collapse, the result would be an enormous horrible mess of melted fuel, bubbling away exposed to the air, buried under rubble. And hot hot hot!!!

The scenario is actually too scary to think of. The next problem of course would be the simply enormous radiation output, that would instsantly completly leave no choice but to abandon the site. Fullstop. Then the flowon effect would take out close by reactors in the area, (I think there are three FACILITIES nearby) which would become as part of fukushima in meltdowns etc...in other words, the collapse of sfp 4 would initiate the end of Japan in a very real sense.

And we have known about this problem for a while now, I have been telling everyone, but no one wants to listen, aparently its all "doom and gloom" They are all talking about it as if it just happened? FUKUSHIMA EMERGENCY WHAT CAN WE DO?
We all now know the water thing isn't working or working fast enough to stop this insane collatoral damage thing globally, at the Fukushima power plant.

Our Governments world-wide are staging what is possible the largest cover-up in human history.

I've been looking for a site dedicated to possible solutions and couldn't find one, so here I am.

I think the idea being floated around of a tactical nuke is a good one: The entire Nuclear Powerlant would be vapourized and the proplem becomes substantially more containable.

1. The radiation after impact decreases dramaticaly (in relation to a continuous unstoppable bleeding into the atmosphere)
This can be varified by looking up the tables available.
2. The area is already unlivable.
3. Fallout is laughable, just look at what is happening now, and again, IS A ONE OFF.
4. It will vapourize the problem including the Plutonium.
5. Japan can order mass evacutions if they do it quickly before everyone is irradiated.
6. After TEPCO admitted lying about repairs and hid the amount of spent fuel, they should suck it up.
And finally, after the big ka-boom, they can clean it up like they did Hiroshima.

US National Academy of Sciences to Set Up Fukushima Investigation Commission

So reports Mainichi Shinbun (4/10/2012):

It has just been revealed that the US National Academy of Sciences has set up its own commission to investigate the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant accident.

In the next two years, the commission will investigate the cause of the accident and Japan's nuclear policies in order to improve the nuclear power plants in the US and the US nuclear policies.

According to the people involved, the commission has been set up by the request from the US Congress. About 20 experts in the US will be asked to join.

Japanese nuclear researchers and engineers will be asked to participate as advisors. They will probably be the experts who are the members of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan.
