Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12498912 Corruption is rampant. I had one of the court workers document and sign my jury notice that I did not have to report for duty. I was told by a good source, this is what you need to do if you don't have to go. THere have been cases of abuse with this. So, if you report on jury duty that day, and they say you don't have to show up make certain you have one of the people write a simple sentence you were absolved from having to go, sign and date the note. THis is to cover your "ass" in case they come back at you and say you did not appear THere have been cases So, if the courts are not trustworthy and full of corruption, how is anyone supposed to get a fair trial if citizens don't do a thorough job on the jury, try to detect and see through obfuscation and tricks, and stand up to give a just result to the trial? You really have no idea what goes on. I had a long time friend who is a lawyer. My lawyer friend is now retired but has seen it all so to speak... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 212949 United States 04/10/2012 10:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was on a jury a few months ago. It made me sad to see what a load of crap our justice system has become. In my particular trial, they didin't have shit on the defendent. The only reason pure and simple we were there, was the victim was a retired cop. Theye needed to pin it on someone just to appease a good ol'boy. Had the victim been an average citizen, it would never had gone to trial. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 4596203 United States 04/10/2012 10:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was excited to receive my jury duty notice a couple of years ago, but my 'honesty' cause my immediate dismissal by BOTH Lawyers ! Quoting: Eagle # 1 13911339 Was asked repeatedly by both lawyers, ' WAS I going to FOLLOW the instructions of the Judge ' , till it was clear that they were TELLING ME I must do what he said. I quoted the law, saying once I was in the jury room, we were free to discuss the 'law' and did it apply ! Had several quotes from famous Supreme Court judges saying exactly the SAME THING. They were asking me to follow the judges recomendations to the point of NOT thinking for ones self, and I was refusing. Eagle Keep your cards closer to the vest next time. We need folks like you on the actual juries. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13513441 United States 04/10/2012 01:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm sure it's a pain and uncomfortable but we need good jurors. Especially for tax trials. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12807134 Don't bitch about the laws if you're not willing to do something to make a difference. We sit here bitch bitch bitch but no ones is willing ever to stand up to the plate. Well we should have a right to bitch, I pay taxes, haven't broken the law not even a speeding ticket the last 15 years. Why should I be punished for something that someone else has done. I do not want to sit on jury duty. It is BS. I got called up when I lived in Denton Tx and even though they told me that I would not have to serve, the judge would not let us go until 2pm. What a bunch of BS |

A few months later I got the papers telling me to report again, so I called the number and told them I was just there for duty and I shouldn't be called again so soon...they saw where I signed in last time and apologized, because they have to wait at least two years :) Quoting: BRIEF Sometimes you annoy me with your post. Anonymous Coward User ID: 13867753 Canada 04/10/2012 02:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have, and it was a glimpse of hell on earth. Quoting: Hope_Full If I could revoke my voter registration and never have to go through that again, I would, but I'm told they now pull DMV records for jury pools, so unless I'm willing to give up driving, I may get called again. Can someone explain *WHY* when the thugs of the world commit a crime, I'm sentenced to be locked up in a municipal building for several days until the crime is resolved in some way? We were told that, 1) If we did not show up for jury duty, we would be jailed. 2) If we left during our time of municipal-building-lock-up, we would be found out and jailed. Just how is that "voluntary service"? Here in the south, you're parked in a small room with five televisions blaring and no escape. There are no cell phones allowed, no cameras, no iPods, no iPads, no laptops, no nothing. Not a prayer of reading a book, because of the five televisions going full blast all day long. It really is ugly. Involuntary slavery has been abolished but NOT voluntary slavery. If they demand something from you and you do not present them with a FEE SCHEDULE, then you are a voluntary slave. Next time tell them what it will cost them to have you perform jury duty. Also tell them they must pay in advance. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12807134 We sit here bitch bitch bitch but no ones is willing ever to stand up to the plate. How does serving on a jury have any impact on the laws? My point is, I'm a law-abiding citizen, but if some thug breaks the law, I'm the one who gets locked up and deprived of my freedom, under penalty of ARREST if I try to leave. That just makes no sense whatsoever. And guess what - lawyers are automatically exempted from service. Guess who made *that* rule? What if he didn't break the law? That's what the jury is there to decide. (If you are willing to consider nullification, they're also there to decide if that law should be enforced in the given instance.) Are you aware that prosecutors often don't care about justice, they're just rabid attack dogs who want as many convictions as possible? That's what our "adversarial system of justice" means! You are a very good American. Kudos for doing the right thing |
