thats very odd. looks very artificial to me. all the major quakes i ceen in the past decades ever since the web existed, at this magnitude, all had smallish afterquakes for quite a while.

if you remember fukushima, there were quakes int the 5+ range for weeks therafter.....

#IndonesiaQuake Tsunami Update 1 - No Threat to New Zealand

The United States Geoplogical Service has issued an Earthquake Report in response to a magnitude 8.7 earthquake off the west coast of northern Sumatra, Indian Ocean . This earthquake is in a similar location and of a slightly lower magnitude to the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.

The Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management (MCDEM) has assessed the information with the assistance of scientific advisors. Based on current information, the initial assessment is that the earthquake does not pose a tsunami threat to New Zealand. MCDEM will continue to monitor the situation. Only messages issued by MCDEM represent the official warning status for New Zealand.

The largest recorded wave that was measured in Japan was a 230 feet high wave. That is the one that took the trains off their tracks and sucked them into the sea...they still have not been recovered.
