Im sure Henry does know the score ;) in that Reefer Man video by Cab Calloway he sure does boogie down eh. It is amazing how music can touch our souls and move us in such a way that it does. Henry is such a nice person and a warm human being.

Hey if any of you guys work in a nursing home or have a relative there, here is a great and unique radio station that you can stream off the internet for them.

KMRE-LP
[link to www.sparkmuseum.org]

It broadcasts from the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention in Bellingham Washington, formerly the American Museum of Radio and Electricity.

They play a wide variety of music from the 20s, 30s and 40s and some old radio shows as well.

I listen to it a lot, it's really fun, lots of big band stuff, blues, western swing, calypso, foreign stuff, you name it.

This thread makes me wish they could promote it heavily to the nursing homes to those who might enjoy it.

AWESOME. I have been watching my 89 yr old grandmother go downhill fast lately and feel so sorry for her. Scares me to think I may live long enough to treated like furniture.

Another reason why suicide clinics need to be in every city worldwide. The guy is a vegetable and is better off dead, IMO. It's sad to watch people get a rise out of him by playing his favorite music. 10 years in a nursing home! It's ridiculous. What's the point of keeping him alive? Let him rest in peace!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14204974

No way. God keeps you here, that means you have a reason to be here. Maybe one of the reasons why this man is still alive is to be on this very youtube, and perhaps it will inspire others to use music that is relevant to other residents to cheer them up. Maybe it will inspire a watcher to get into music therapy. Maybe he has some healing of relationships which can now happen as he is more aware. Only God knows!

Yes, music bridges all divides. I have always thought that Rock nRoll had as much to do with destroying wall dividing Berlin than any politician could have, study those Rock bands, they will tell you!

What a great story! I love it! Music touches people in a way that nothing else can.

Years ago when my father-in-law was still alive - for xmas got him a stereo cd player trying to update him. And along with that I sent a few cds of the women artists in the forties. Boy that was a hit. Music really touches folks. That was Oliver Sacks speaking who has been writing alot about how the brain interacts with music.

What a beautiful story. Glad for that man that he does have his memories... What is life for if not for the memories.

I can say this, my 7 year old daughter is in a choir and the choir visited a nursing home, the first song that they sang was "My country tis of thee", and when they were done, all of the men that were living there stood up(the ones that could) and saluted the children. It was a very moving moment for me, and for the kids. To me it seemed that as soon as the kids started singing, the people's eyes lit up. I think it made them all feel better if even just for a little bit.
