The upper atmospheric blasts took place in the deep south pacific and one of those took out power in Hawaii 4000 miles away. A few small bombs were used in CONUS, but nothing at the 400 miles above Kansas that will be needed to take out much of CONUS.

Why i love this site...

They do not even need to be nuclear. We probably have kinetic weapons platforms and they can have the yield of a tac nuk and fired in a massive volley. They can strike anywhere on earth within minutes. And they will be nearly silent and invisible. Most anyone who would witness anything would soon be dead.

That incident I referenced was in the 50s I believe. It was an accident. Current infrastructure is proabbly more vulnerable and current EMP producing weaponry is far more sophisticated.

But the sun can kill the entire earth with an EMP.

I have always thought that, for human (HOMO SAPIEN) race to make progress peacefully, we have to quickly advance our science in space travelling. Just like a successful parasite does, we need to learn the ability to colonize another planet once the existing planet is exhausted of its resource. If we do nothing and maintain the current status quo, we would be ended up killing each other with WMD for depleting resources and it's game over for HOMO SAPIEN.
