WTH - The Army Is Stocking Up On A Ton Of Anti-Radiation Pills To Protect Troops
While checking out the Federal Business Opportunities network, we came across a listing by the Defense Logistics Agency — the Troop Support branch — seeking a supply of potassium iodide tablets.

Scrolling through the online solicitation, you'll see the U.S. Army Medical Material Agency wants to ensure "critical operational forces are protected in the event of nuclear fallout."

Check this out!!!

As the federal solicitation is quick to point out, "The recent earthquake in Japan in March of 2011 and the resultant nuclear crisis has renewed interest in this item."

So it's a "crisis"... NOW? wtf

Gotta have good attention span to make it through the article to the juicy part...

Of course, potassium iodide would also come in handy if there were to be an airstrike against a target laden will nuclear material, say, like the sites in Iran.

While the potassium iodide tablets wanted by the Army don't necessarily mean a thing, they'll sure be nice to have if an attack against Iran eventually goes down.

The DLA is apparently looking for upwards of 400,000 dollars worth of the thyroid protecting tablets at a time when many government officials have openly told American citizens NOT to buy potassium iodide.

This on top of a stark warning by a former UN adviser that the world could literally be destroyed by Fukushima.

Army Stockpiles Anti-Radiation Pills To Protect Against Fukushima Fallout

Despite the mainstream media's disinterest in the ongoing Fukushima crisis, now into its 14th month, experts have warned that the situation at the Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant is at its most critical phase.

As we reported last week, according to insiders the Japanese government has drawn up contingency plans for the potential evacuation of Greater Tokyo’s 39 million residents due to the threat posed by the potential meltdown of Fukushima’s reactor number 4, which holds 75% as much nuclear fuel as the entire Chernobyl complex did prior to its meltdown.

“The worse-case scenario drawn up by the government includes not only the collapse of the No. 4 reactor pool, but the disintegration of spent fuel rods from all the plant’s other reactors. If this were to happen, residents in the Tokyo metropolitan area would be forced to evacuate,” according to a Mainichi Daily News editorial by senior writer Takao Yamada which cited defense insiders.

Diplomat Akio Matsumura went further, warning that the collapse of reactor number 4 would "certainly cause a global catastrophe like we have never before experienced," adding that the 11,138 spent fuel assemblies stored at the Fukushima plant contain “134 million curies is Cesium-137 — roughly 85 times the amount of Cs-137 released at the Chernobyl accident."

I got iodine tablets and radiation detector cards for the family several years back. Wheither it's an attack or a prolonged power failure due to an EMP from the sun cooking off the nuclear power plants, it's cheap insurance on a future that seems to be written in stone now. At some point some areas of the country/world will be irradiated one way or another.

Fukashima was about as big a wake up all as you're gonna get folks. Lights go out, power plants go bang, SHTF in that order.

"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

Just for kicks, mention Fukushima to random people and watch the "huh?" response.

I'm freaking AMAZED at how many people know about a big earthquake in Japan, but ZERO about Fuku.

We had tons of links on the dangers/precautions/instructions on KI shortly after the Fuku stories broke. I'm not going to go off into that direction, though. Just wanted to point out that suddenly the military needs KI, and... we don't (for whatever reason).

FEMA doesnt give a rat's ass if the general population gets this:

The Federal position is that KI should be stockpiled and
distributed to emergency workers and institutionalized persons for
radiological emergencies at a nuclear power plant and its use should be
considered for the general public within the 10-mile emergency planning
zone (EPZ) of a nuclear power plant. However, the decision on whether
to use KI for the general public is left to the discretion of States
and, in some cases, local governments.

I'm not going to weigh in on that, since, after all the KI threads last year, I came to my own conclusion that a) if used improperly, it could cause other health issues and b) if used properly, it would not block all radiation, there's no sense in buying any.

However, this latest news has me spock
