And who's property was Zimmerman protecting? If he were at home, protecting his own home, then why would he be in his car? A neighborhood watchman appointed by the neighborhood would have a civic duty to patrol the area; he was not a neighborhood appointed watchman, therefor he had no valid reason to be AWAY from his home (if there were repeated break-ins I would want my husband protecting me and my family, though he was living with his parents as he has failed at his own marriage, school and job). So I have to question Zimmerman's motivation to be in his car, in his parents neighborhood, patrolling the area without the residents consent, on a dark and rainy night.
Just think on that for a second.

His Dad is retired Navy, meaning, he did not need Georges protection. Im sure Dad can handle a firearm. He wasn't a neighborhood watchman, he was the captain. Self appointed or not. Noone must have been at the meeting to dispute this appointment. Whether you like it or not, he had every right to patrol PRIVATE PROPERTY. Neighbors concerned about crime should have attended the neighborhood watch meetings, they didn't, so they cannot bitch about how it is handled after the fact. Those types of HOA's put out monthly newsletters and I would bet $100 against a doughnut that they seeked volunteers. The man had every legal right to do what he was doing and Trayvon had no legal right to assault him. It is that simple

He was in repeated trouble with the law and has a battery assault charge against a police officer in 2005!

You are arguing against your point; if the crime was bad enough to warrant a neighborhood watchman then they should have appointed one; they didn't need one, asked repeatedly for Zimmerman to stop, he didn't; they were bitching about how it was handled because they DIDN'T WANT HIM THERE.
Zimmerman was living with his parents because he failed at everything he did: his marriage, his job, and he flunked out of school.
He is not a tax paying functional member of society at 28 years old.
This alone should make you re-think your lily-white view of Mr. Zimmerman.

If they did't want him they should have gotten off the couch and attended a watch meeting. They didn't.
Those charges were dropped. The man had to have a background check to get a concealed carry permit.
Lily white? I do not claim that. I am claiming that, according to Floridas stand you ground law, he had every right to do what he did. Tragic? Yes. Murder? NO

I don't think it was murder either; I don't think the actions leading up to the shooting were technically illegal; I do think Zimmerman slipped through the cracks with the background check or obtained the gun illegally (maybe his father's weapon?) or had it before all of the arrests; the man had multiple arrests for assault and domestic violence, is it possible that he overreacted/instigated the conflict? He has a history of anger issues, apparently, so I'm not going to say that he was right in what he was doing or in a right state of mind to be handling this.
Who, other than Zimmerman himself and his family, that is a resident of that neighborhood, calls him "Neighborhood Watch Captain?" I've read/heard nothing about him being the officially appointed Captain. If Zimmerman and his family were the only ones who felt the need to be protected then he should have been "protecting" his own house. *A house that he doesn't financially support in any way or pay taxes on in any way. I don't understand how crashing at your parents house makes him a functioning member of the community.*
