Thank you for being open minded in this conversation.

So far, without attaching a label..philosophical discussion preceeding having a philosophical point of view leading discussion.

If you still care to play, I wonder what we could craft from it..hmmm

Well, I can offer the following observations about love:

(1) Love just "is" - there is no one I love "most" and no one I love "least." That is, love isn't divisible into portions I mete out to others. Nor is it limited. Other things are limited such as time, energy, etc., so our expressions of love will be limited, but not the love itself.

(2) Love loves the unlovable, not requiring any kind of performance or change in behavior. Love loves others "just as they are."

(3) Love is demonstrated. More than a warm, fuzzy feeling. As someone usually says "love is a verb."

(4) Love is two-way, so love is more than just a "verb." The heart that opens up to give love needs to stay open to receive the love of others, and the latter is far harder to do than it would appear. You see, when we "give" love, we decided who to love; we decide how to love; we decide when to love; and we even decide when to stop.

But when we open up our hearts to receive the love of others, we lose all that sense of control. We must be vulnerable to receive love. So in addition to love being a "verb," love is also "surrender."

Re: So this is what it means to Love...
IMO, unconditional love doesn't have to look or show itself, or seek approval. And, it doesn't mean accepting and engaging those that treat us badly.
 Quoting: Lil' Lioness

But religionists preach that people should love, forgive, and forget those who hurt them.

That is just wrong, in ever way.

Ex: I can love you, even when I don't like you.
 Quoting: Lil' Lioness

Why would anyone want to "love" someone they don't like?

Sheer nonsense.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14397994

First one has to understand love, love has no sense now does it?

I propose love to be nonsense, and each one of us that has learned to love as non-sensible.

Quote from Frederick Buechner:

"The love for equals is a human thing - of friend for friend, brother for brother. It is to love what is loving and lovely. The world smiles. the love for the less fortunate is a beautiful thing - the love for those who suffer, for those who are poor, the sick, the failures, the unlovely. This is compassion, and it touches the heart of the world. The love for the more fortunate is a rare thing - to love those who succeed where we fail, to rejoice without envy with those who rejoice, the love of the poor for the rich, of the black man for the white man [or the white man for the black man]. The world is always bewildered by its saints. And then there is the love for the enemy - love for the one who does not love you but mocks, threatens, and inflicts pain. The tortured's love for the torturer. This is God's love. It conquers the world."

Let us all choose to let go of evil and turn to Love - Jesus Christ is That Love!

Think it not weak, for it is the greatest and most spectacular Power throughout all eternity!

I think so...umm - craft what? Quite likely I am a little slow on the uptakewink
 Quoting: jdb

Slow, oh no, I have an odd way with words.

I was imagining a belief system, let's say religion for example:

I Am religion " ______"; therefore, I believe "_______".

Now flip the script, "I believe ______"; therefore, I Am.

I don't know if it would work, we are clued in to some of the ideals already. Kind of like memorizing the eye chart, and getting all the letters right without looking.

Overall, by crafting, I meant building from scratch....
"Okay McGyver, let's see what we can craft from these common household items".

Does that make any sense? I hope so,

'I honor the place within you where the entire universe resides; I honor the place within you of love, of light, of truth, of peace; I honor the place within you, where, when you are in that place in you, and I am in that place with me, there is only one of us'

This is my favorite interpretation of love: also known as 'Namaste'

You give love to receive love.

You act out love to spread love.

Love is through actions, and admiring the sameness within others that is same within you.

God is manifested and personified through our actions of love.

I hope so,

Yes it makes sense...you're funny!

Here's the thing though...I *can't* do that because I am adamantly opposed to *religion*!

This is the whole of the point - Jesus "Is" - the relationship with Him *is* glorious (good times / hard times) life "giving" and awesome beyond articulation!

Your belief system allows unconditional love, based on forgiveness.

YES!!!

Only someone with low self-esteem will love unconditionally and forgive those who hurt them.

Re: So this is what it means to Love...
How can you stop the fear that sets in when you start feeling the love-I get periods of the love I know it is there but then my mind goes back to being afraid. Afraid that if I don't follow all the rules that I have heard/known that I will be put in Hell-I am so ridiculoustoungepeace And the most bizarre thing is I was never raised religiously, don't go to church and my parents raised me to believe in something, but not religion. Ever since being on GLP I am more scared. I read the things about God/Jesus and then think I better just listen otherwise God will not be with me. But the whole time I have believed in God/Jesus! Oh jeez does this make any sense at all? Sorry....and thanks
PS I never put much belief in Hell only because I was taught to focus on love instead. I really think all the Hell stuff is just negativity etc......but then I get scared because I think if I think on my own I will be ignored by God. Maybe that made it clearer
I can rewrite this if I need....lol
