Re: 4 yr old girl has IQ of 159 -- 1 point shy of Stephen Hawking's IQ
No one around here is going to believe this, because it is around here, and that is simply the nature of the beast..... around here.

I would like to know, because I was also pretty surprised when I saw this article. They refer to this child as a genius... they also compare her scores to other great minds. Is 160 truly Steven Hawkin's IQ? Seems like he would be a 180 hahaha. But then the truth is, I do not know much about IQ scores.

How uncommon is a 159? and this child, she is a 159 but only measured against other 4 year olds? this is not a test that can measure against all the populace of the globe? or am I wrong about that?
My child also scored a 159, at age 5. I always could tell that he/she was very bright, but I am truly surprised to see the descriptive words used in this article about a little girl with the same score. I guess this is what happens when brilliant children are born to only just above average intelligence parents.

If my child was to join MENSA, would it also become public information? I am assuming her parents contacted the media?
I am certainly assessing whether or not I have things arranged in our lives to provide stimulus and exposure and the levels that might be required. MENSA may be good for that.

I do wish there was an edit button, sorry for not proof reading my post....
also, in case you were wondering.... yes, I intentionally said, "he/she". No, this is not because of anything else "special" about my child, just a personal paranoia issue, I am sure you all understand paranoia.
Also, in reply to other posts on this thread... my child is not autistic/aspergers or the like.

Re: 4 yr old girl has IQ of 159 -- 1 point shy of Stephen Hawking's IQ
WINCHESTER, England, April 12 (UPI) -- International high-IQ society Mensa said it has accepted a 4-year-old British girl whose IQ is only 1 point less than that of physicist Stephen Hawking.

John Stevenage, chief executive of British Mensa, said the organization was proud to welcome Heidi Hankins of Winchester, England, into its ranks after she scored a 159 on an IQ test, putting her just 1 point behind fellow Mensa member Hawking's 160 IQ, The Sun reported Thursday.

The IQ test for a 4 year old could easily be MAXed out by an 8 year old.

I Guarantee, this 4 year old could not even come close to "Passing" an Adult IQ test.

4 year old's do not have "Life Experiences" to pass a True IQ test.

I average 165 when tested. I have to believe Hawking's is much higher. Either that, or he has had nothing else to do but focus on studies. I've dated a couple of MENSA members... They were cute & could be charming... Ultimately conceited though & constantly proving how smart they are... Boring!

159? That's Outrageous!

Hell, half the people on GLP have been tested multiple times to be significantly higher than that!

Mensa should be watching this forum for recruiting opportunities.

Seems like every dumbass in the place fancies themself a genius.

It's not like she would get 159 in an ordinary test from Mensa.

They have easier special tests for kids.

Re: 4 yr old girl has IQ of 159 -- 1 point shy of Stephen Hawking's IQ
does this tell you that a 4 year old girl is as smart as a nobel prize winning physicist or that MENSA is a completely retarded organization?

WINCHESTER, England, April 12 (UPI) -- International high-IQ society Mensa said it has accepted a 4-year-old British girl whose IQ is only 1 point less than that of physicist Stephen Hawking.

She is a smart young girl with a world of opportunity unfortunatley by the time she reaches teen yrs she will have f'd them all up by hanging with a loser crowd and getting into drugss and alcohol. I know, because that is what my overly smart baby did. Just saying.

I wouldn't trust IQ tests to be accurate. I've tested from as low as 125 to as high as 160 and I'm still the same person.

Re: 4 yr old girl has IQ of 159 -- 1 point shy of Stephen Hawking's IQ
to bad that her IQ's been discovered, cause this will happen:. She will join Mensa and go to a hoidy toidy rich school on some sort of scholarship, but then get knocked up. After that, she will no longer be able to support her college tuition and a baby. So she will drop out then move to the states, only to wind up on some dumb "reality" show hosted by Cee-lo Green....

if the concept of iq falls short of the mark for u, google "multiple intelligences" as well as spiritual intelligence. iq means shit without some wisdom to drive it
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12716930

IQ shows the potentiality of your mind's capabilities. If you have an extremely above average IQ, well you have the potential to be a lot more productive in your life because of your advanced mental prowess.. 'Wisdom' is not necessarily needed as opposed to something like.. 'motivation' to use your mental abilities for your own benefit.

being "pigeon-toed" to a fake number is limiting in the first place...too many with supposedly high iqs fall in love with themselves and become USELESS...depressed...

it's not the number that counts...it's what you do with your brain pans...in humility that makes you a winner.

Actually, 159 and even 160 are not extreme -- I work with a bunch of software engineers that are probably over 150 -- I'm 135 and they treat me kindly and repeat things frequently for my benefit. Or maybe my buddies are just really well rounded -- athletic, social, art/theater/book lovers, and hilariously funny -- and yes, they're good looking too!!! Denver.

at four years old...this child is already doomed...expectation is a killer at such an early age...first time she doesn't meet her parents/others expectatiosns...she begins to fail...doubt her ability...

most always...it's best to keep your brain pans a secret.. besides it's really nobody's business but the one who holds the gene power!

high iq brains, if they are well-rounded, take time to help others who are less fortunate...when they are around others....they usually work alone so they cannot be bothered with petty thoughts of others...most seek solitude to stay focused on their project...and yes, they all have pet projects...solving the unsolvable.

Mensa will accept anyone with good college board scores.

Therefore I guess it's for people who did OK on an IQ test but got bad college board scores.

Re: 4 yr old girl has IQ of 159 -- 1 point shy of Stephen Hawking's IQ
Mensa's cutoff on IQ tests is usually in the low 130's, so 159 is way over the bar. So they should be happy to have her, even though IQ testing such a young child has got to be fairly unreliable in terms of future performance -- and the standard deviation at that age has got to be much higher than for adults, meaning she would probably regress toward the mean (100) on future tests if she takes any.
