if you don't break the law, you have nothing to worry about
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13663679

Really ? It has nothing to do with that , it has to do with them taking control of the net and shutting sites down , site just like GLP .
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14527994

they don't care about GLP and the like. they are trying to regulate the market in which there is a drag due to the intellectual rights being infringed upon. you wouldn't want asswipes sharing your shit on the internet when you're trying to get paid. because we have this drag in this market, it directly has an effect on our economy and jobs, because when people illegally obtain products instead of paying, companies lose millions of dollars that could be creating jobs, new technologies, and new industries.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13663679

No doubt there are some good uses that can be made with CISPA.. the problem is, with the wrong people in control of it..there can be some awful uses made with it as well. Like major censorship of all sites, including GLP.
Who will head CISPA? Anyone know who's juristiction this will fall into?

let me tell you something. in 2007 when i was in the air force reserves, i sent an email to a whole bunch of generals accusing bush of being a criminal and called for him being apprehended and brought to justice because i was reading stupid conspiracy sites and believing whatever i was reading. the secret service came and detained me for 1 day. but they let me go after they figured out that i was not actually threatening bush, but just basically calling for his impeachment. later i was given a general discharge under honorable conditions, because prior to the reserves i completed my service commitment by serving honorably 8 years on active duty.

anyway, they let me go whithout any charges. it is then i realized that the USA is truly a free country where you have a right to say what you want and not worry about being prosecuted or detained without trial.

no one cares what you talk about as long as you're not talking about destruction or places or plotting to kill people or break the law.

just don't break the actual law.

I have already written my reps in DC twice about CISPA, and about SOPA so many times they are tired of hearing about it. I recommend everyone do the same. Write them often enough and they will actually give a personal answer. It may not be from your congressman or senator (I don't really know) but a real person in Washington reads it and responds to it. Sending an email is easy and only takes couple of minutes.

Please write them NOW! And do it often.

Well prior variations of the present bill failed.

So they just make a new bill.

They want more control of the internet, information, and people so that is that.

Reading your story, makes me worry on several levels AC. Here's why. First and foremost, what you posted, was being watched by TPTB... You were brought up on the mat for "saying" things.. that were probably being said by many others as well. There was a time, when what you posted was considered private, like a letter. Not any more.

You should not have had to worry about being discharged honourably.. that should have been a given.. and only if you chose to leave, not under any kind of duress.

Having served your country for 8 years and overseas at that.. you should never have had a moments worry about that.

Also, this was in 2007.. that was 5 years ago, and the rules are changing so fast we cannot keep up...it's not like they are advertising the changes.. they change laws and rules on the fly and if it weren't for some pretty vigilant people.. we wouldn't know about them at all.

Most of us don't know what is or is not against the law any more.. the rules have changed so often, even the changes have been changed.

Having said all that.. I would like to say thank you for serving your country! Kudos to you for dedicating those years of your life to your counry.

I hope, what you say, is true.. that there should be no worries if you're not breaking laws. We can hope.

the usa will always be the greatest place on earth. sure, we'll have new law and new rules. they have to be in place because without them we're losing more.

i used to ridicule the air force for having a regulation that actually specifies exactly how you are to wear your belt. when i asked why, there was a good explanation. the reason for such specifics was that in the past, if you don't tell people how they are to wear a belt, they will wear it like idiots do. and if you have a military in which people act like idiots instead of acting like professionals, then you have a problem.

It's gonna happen. One way or the other. Resistance is futile.

Build your low-tech community network now. Buy books on essential skills. Once the Internet is severely restricted you WILL need a way to find and work with like minded people and have access to info that is not net-connection dependent.

Do it now while the resource is there. It may not be there much longer.

right...and you think the entertainment industry will start booming if this passes??

let's face it, the economy sucks. it's not going to get better by paying a bunch of musicians/actors more money. everyone and their brother wants to get rich making music or being in movies. it's all been watered down buy sub par performances.

this is NOT the solution.

You do know that there are tens of thousands of laws such that anyone, anyone, at all can be charged, jailed and convicted at anytime, right?
For something that no one could even know was illegal.

No matter how "law abiding" they think they are.

The rule of law is virtually gone in this country.

You might look up the difference between mala in se and mala prohibita.
