A lot of these women (and we're not to judge) clearly are not practitioners although some are practicing something. That something that could be labeled "Christian" yet is still a far departure from any faith the Church Fathers knew. |

Matthew 7:22 ish I believe it is covers that. Quoting: morvis Plus most people lie on those polls. Statistics are too often cooked and hand picked to get the results their looking for. 100% correct. You can't "say" your Christian. You have to "live" like a Christian. If you don't walk the walk, you have no right to talk the talk. If that is the case, then 90% of "christians" are not christians...and 98% of christians on GLP are not "Christians" The religious hypocrisy in America is frightening. And it starts right here... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1012292 Now you're getting somewhere. The truth is most (maybe even as much as 90%) are not really Christians at all. Christianity is a very open and accepting umbrella that accommodates a whole variety of people. There are no membership rules as regards the Church since we believe in not usurping God's role as ultimate and final Judge but to make the final cut is much harder than just applying a meaningless title to the facebook prompt "Religion: ". |

They are frequently the ones who are pressuring for an abortion. They don't want to have to pay for a child, so they push and push and threaten and warn... Happens all the time. Parents do it, too. I know, I was hoping to get a mans point of view on my opinion. Their lack of response is a pretty loud answer. My opinion still stands though.. If we want to be treated equally as women, we have to treat men equal to how we want to be treated. To answer your first query; the men and boys whom you see everyday. Ultimately men have no say in the chosen medical procedures an intimate female relation, pregnant or otherwise, may decide is the best option for them. I tend to disagree with ST's biased views. I feel most young women have abortions out of a sense of fear, which may arise from actual or perceived shortcomings. |

Because they don't want other christians to know that they *gasp* had sex. Their parents and their boyfriend pressure them, as well. Quoting: Sandi_T At least an abortion isn't a visible 'sin'.... I think this is a good answer. Also, maybe younger Christian women aren't using reliable birth control because they weren't really planning on having sex. I knew an old woman who used to say it's the nice girls who get caught. Plus, Americans are more religious than most countries, so most people identify with a religion whether they actually go to church much or not. What reasons did you give in your paper, OP? |

This statistic is only meaningful when compared with the percentage of the US population of women of reproductive age that meet that criteria. That is, if 75% of the US population of reproductive age women are Christian and 37% of poeple getting an abortion are Christian, then other groups would really be getting a higher percentage, relative to the population. And are they distinguishing between Christian and Catholic? Catholicism is a Christian faith? |

These statistics are taken out of context of course. As it turns out secular women are less likely to have an abortion becasue they are less likely to get pregnant in the first place. They are more likely to use birth control and insist that their partners do too! Ideas like athiest omen are 319% more liekly to have an abortion? where on eearth did that come from? It certainly wouldn't match the demographic in culturally similar nations where the majority are athiestic... the UK, Sweden, France, Germany etc. The math in this case is really, really, really simple.... Things that stop unwanted pregnancies will result in less abortions. Its surprising I have to restate the obvious and that is axiomatic too. Anywau the fact remains that women religious or otherwise obviously availa of abortions... but the good news is that abortion is not compulsory. Which is a great compromise becasue those that think abortion is wrong and immoral and a 'sin' are not obliged to take part as either a doctor or a patient... and so long as they mind their own bloody business when it comes to others excercising how they feel on the matter everything will be fine. Off course thats not likely to happebn is it... after all you do get holy joe god brigaders knocking down doors speaking absolute rubbish....but when was the last time an atheist knocked on your door and handed you a blank pamphlet then walked away! Until recently those that shouted loudest got the attention... well the rest of us just stopped listening some time back to be honest... believe what you like.... but the religious should no longer expect or rely on others obeying whatever nonsense they come up with any more. Becasue we've seen that nonsense in action and its just sheer lunacy. |
