I drink coke/jager/jack daniels/milkshakes/hot chocolate and eat 3x meals a day with crisps/chocolate/donuts/you name it (except fast food and takeaways) yet i'm still thin as a stick.

The balance comes between eating empty carbs and then getting the exercise to burn it off, luckily I live in the hills of the UK so plenty of hiking around here.

WRONG. that was three years ago. i'm a size 8 and still dropping. i had to lose 80 lbs because for years i didn't identify my allergy, and no matter how much i worked out, walked, rode bikes, ate well, so long as the wheat was still a part of my diet, i just kept gaining.

The vast Majority of people are not allergic to wheat. Humans have been eating wheat for hundreds of years without obesity epidemics. I'm glad you found your problem.

i think the reasoning is that not all carbs are created equally. some carbs get converted to 'sugars' quicker than others. veggie carbs are 'slow' carbs in that they con't get converted quickly. bread, pasta, crappy food etc are fast carbs. protein, good fats (like olive oil, avacodoes etc) and veggies are what we should be eating the most of.

Low carb diets do work, and quite well I might add. True if you don't change eating habbits when done and continue to stuff your face with cabr laden goodies, then yes the fat will come back.

The science behind low carb is just that scientific fat. Restricting the carb intake, which your body is used to digesting and eating protein and fats, pulls a fast one on the metabolism. The digestive system when it comes to digesting the proteins and fats determines it is too much effort to perform this function for energy, so it then uses stored fat for current energy needs. The proteins and fats are then duked out.

Personally I like the diet because it is also refered to as 'the drinkers diet', I don't have to give up my prefered method of decompression.

It's really gross when I see families and their little piggy kids order freaking HUMUNGUS plates, appetizers, main meals AND dessert and shovel it all down in one sitting.. and they're disgustingly overweight.

One time I went to a restaurant with my family and of of the ENTIRE establishment we were the only ones that weren't hideously overweight. It was really uncomfortable. We had to split out orders because of the sheer volume of food.

It's all about portion control. You can eat carbs, sweets, etc as long as it's in moderation (and you don't lead a totally sedentary lifestyle)

1) number one factor in being thin is not storing intake food as fat
This can be done by
2) burning it by doing exercise
3) not taking as much in
4) avoiding to eat things that can store as fat

Low-carb diet people burn fat for calories, not sugar, that's why they stay thin.

The only "problem" I have found with low-carb is that it makes you loose your hair, so you have to take zinc supplements.

That, and you need to drink a lot of water because your kidneys will be working harder.

The OP's remark about the japanese doesn't make much sense, they tend to exercise a lot, and they're genetically less prone to store fat.

Genes do play a role, the Maori, the hawaiians and all those island folk, having survived thousands of years on nothing but coconut and the occasional fish, now get fatter than ever before. The opposite is true for the Japanese.

Wanna lead a healthy life?

Start your day with a good breakfast, do some exercise, like bike to work or a 30-minute workout.
Eat a healthy luch filled with vitamins.
Have 2 fruit snacks.
Do some exercise when or after coming home.
Have a decent dinner, don't eat the same stuff everyday.

Be outside as much as possible for your lifestyle.

Keep a regular sleep pattern.

You say low carbs. It could mean anything. Everybody has their own idea on what low carbs really means. It is totally useless anyway. I prefer hard numbers. I've been reading studies over low carbs, saturated fat, cholesterol, etc forever. Again, just saying "low carbs" means nothing.
If you want to "cure" diabetes type 2 assuming it's not too late, hit low carbs. However what is exactly low carbs diet? That is where everybody get confused. It could be anything.

OP! you are sadly mistaken..... you should talk to a real nutritionist before you go off about this or that concerning fats and carbs. Firstly, Gatorade contains ONLY dextrose which is chemically pure sugar, not HFCS. Secondly, HFCS is not used in softdrink such as coke or pepsi made outside the US ( they save it mostly for us here in the US). I just traveled around SE asia for several months and I can attest that asians and indians that eat more carbs and processed sugar are fat, they can metabolize well earlier in their lives but as they reach 45-55 they pack on considerable belly fat. Their bodies are adapted to eat less protein as is, westerners on the same rice diet with low protein develop a multitude of mineral and vitamin deficiencies( meaning people of the west have adapted to eatting more protein and conversely have co-developed skeletons to carry the extra muscle mass produced.

OP! you are sadly mistaken..... you should talk to a real nutritionist before you go off about this or that concerning fats and carbs. Firstly, Gatorade contains ONLY dextrose which is chemically pure sugar, not HFCS. Secondly, HFCS is not used in softdrink such as coke or pepsi made outside the US ( they save it mostly for us here in the US). I just traveled around SE asia for several months and I can attest that asians and indians that eat more carbs and processed sugar are fat, they can metabolize well earlier in their lives but as they reach 45-55 they pack on considerable belly fat. Their bodies are adapted to eat less protein as is, westerners on the same rice diet with low protein develop a multitude of mineral and vitamin deficiencies( meaning people of the west have adapted to eatting more protein and conversely have co-developed skeletons to carry the extra muscle mass produced.

According to that joke my ideal weight was 195 pounds.Despite the fact that when I was my lowest (220) people remarked on just how unnaturally thin and sickly looking I was.I was shooting for 'healthy',not 'concentration camp thin'.
