Good and bad. The good news is that my husband FINALLY got approved for Social Security Disability. He will get his first check in the middle of February. THANK YOU JESUS !!!
Next year, he could have got the early Social Security Retirement. If he couldn't get the SSD, we were going to have to hang in there for 1 more year. This is such a big relief for us.:)
The bad, well we got a double header. Yesterday afternoon, a good sized section of our bedroom ceiling collapsed, and it will have to be dry-walled, along with the adjacent section of the wall. It had been drooping, but we thought it could wait until we got some cash flow going over here, but it came down. The only good thing is, we got the antique dresser and my great grandmothers knicknacks out of the way befor it came crashing down. When the plaster ceiling crashed to the floor, it actually shook the house like and earthquake ! WHAT A MESS !!! :(
Yesterday evening it was disaster part 2. Our sewers backed up in the basement. :( The plumber will be over here tomorrow, as he couldn't make it here today. We can still use water, but are keeping it at a minimum. When we use water, it bubbles up out of the floor drain in the basement, but goes back down within a few minutes. It is not totally plugged, as yet, but...
Praise God from Whom all Blessings flow !!!

Wow! I'm so glad he was approved! How long did it take? I've known people who waited for years for disability to come through.

That's crazy about your celiing, and the sewers! I'm really sorry to hear about that. Doesn't it seem like it's always something?

Hope your weekend is disaster-free!

I am so glad we saved the dresser and the great grandma knicknacks ! It was really wierd how this happened. I decided to lay down for a nap, which I rarely do. Our bedroom has a white tiled ceiling that covers up the original bright blue plaster ceiling. I laid down, glanced up at the ceiling at the foot of the bed, and saw BLUE ! It didn't register right away, it took a second or so, and then I yelled to my husband to come QUICK !!! I should have seen white, not blue ! 4 tiles were hanging, with a heavy chunk of plaster laying on them ! My vanity dresser is part of my bedroom set that is from the 1870's. The mirror is very ornate, and totally irreplacable. I have some very treasured great grandma's stuff on the dresser, like her tripod mantel clock , a music box, and a couple of other family things, all way over 100 years old.
We got the stuff moved out of the way very quickly. When my husband tried to get the chunk of plaster off the hanging tiles, the whole section came crashing to the floor.
I should be used to disasters, as that seems to be par for the course over here. :(
Praise God from Whom all Blessings flow !!!

My Daughter is a Good Girl
-------------------------

A mother took her daughter to the doctor and asked him to give her
an examination to determine the cause of the daughter's swollen abdomen.

It only took the doctor about 2 seconds to say,
"Gimme a break, lady! Your daughter is pregnant!"

The mother turn red with fury, and she argued with the doctor
that *her* daughter was a good girl, and would *never* compromise
her reputation by having sex with a boy.

The doctor faced the window and silently watched the horizon.

The mother became enraged and screamed,
"Quit looking out the window! Aren't you paying attention to me?"

"Yes, of course I am paying attention, ma'am.
It's just that the last time this happened, a star appeared in the east, and three wise men came.

I was hoping they'd show up again,
and help me figure out who got your daughter pregnant!"
We all breathe the same air.

The plumber came by and unclogged the drains. We had 2 clogs in the floor drain, it turns out. Tomorrow I will be doing laundry !
I have had 2 other ceilings come down before. It seems between the earthquake we got here several years ago, which also broke apart our planters in the yard, and the horrible thunking and vibrations when they demolished the old house next door, we have had numerous problems with our walls and ceilings since.
ANYTIME you got a ceiling come down, it is an unbelievable mess.My kitchen ceiling came down on Christmas Eve 7 years ago, a couple of hours before my family was to arrive for an early dinner. I ran to a neighbors for some help. We cut out the dangling parts, cleaned up, and I resumed cooking.
