GCC slams Iran provocation

The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council’s meeting in Doha on Tuesday condemned as ‘provocative’ a visit by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to UAE’s island of Abu Mousa.

The members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) “strongly condemn the Iranian president’s visit to Abu Mousa which is a provocative act and a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates over its three islands”, they said in a joint statement.

Gulf bloc warns Iran in escalating dispute over islands

DOHA, Qatar — Gulf Arab states warned Iran Tuesday that they stand united in an escalating dispute over strategic islands controlled by Tehran but also claimed by the United Arab Emirates.

A statement by the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council told Iran that any perceived aggression against the UAE is considered an affront to the entire bloc, which includes Iran’s main regional rival Saudi Arabia.

UAE has recalled its Ambassador to Tehran in protest against Ahmadinejad's visit to the island on Wednesday last, the first by an Iranian President after its occupation since 1971.

Saudi Arabia has termed as a flagrant violation of UAE sovereignty the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the disputed Persian Gulf island of Abu Musa under Iranian occupation.

Some history

snip to under 50% of article

The crisis has its origins in the control of part of Abu Musa and the seizure of the Greater and Lesser Tunb islands by Iran in 1971. On November 29, 1971, Iran invaded the Greater and Lesser Tunb islands which were under the control of Ras al-Khaimah (RAK) and consolidated its presence on Abu Musa, which was under Sharjah rule. The Iranian invasion came one day before the treaty between Britain and the Trucial States was set to expire and the United Arab Emirates were born. Helicopters dropped leaflets over Greater Tunb demanding its inhabitants surrender to Iran’s authority, and a small RAK police unit fought a short battle with the 3.000-strong Iranian invasion force, after which the island’s residents were deported to RAK.

Iran controls them after invading them; UAE and Saudi Arabia are telling Iran it's time to give them back before they take them back, most likely at the same time Israeli planes are in the skies over Iran.

If the visit of Ahmadinejad to Abu Mousa is a "provocation", then the recent visit of Prince William to the Malvinas ("falcklands") was a provocation too.

If the UAE has a right to claim Abu Mousa, then Argentina has a right to claim the Malvinas ("falcklands") as well.

Re: Breaking - UAE - Iran Island Dispute Intensifies
why is this even pinned ? lol

those islands belong to iran for many years now

(British took it from Arabs,Iranians took it from British)

so they are Iranian islands not Arab ones, also those islands are abit closer to Iran than UAE.

UAE is weak small nation that cant do anything without the US or the White(american) man standing behind its Military,Technology.

The UAE is just used to for cheap oil for the West, once their oil run out(already in 20 years) they are going to be useless again.

Iran on otherhand is self sufficient.

If a single iranian ballistic missile would hit a OIL Ref or pipeline in UAE the OIL price would rise quickly over 150$,
all the UAE can do is bark, while the pressure is on Iran from
US.

Iran should hold a match to those oil fields.. watch how fast Israel & the US change their tune.

The price of fuel would rise so fast and so high they'd have to row all those destroyers home. Some one needs to put a stop to this "Phuck'em up & take their oil" bullshit.

Following American precedence, Iran should pass an executive order immediately implementing a "Scorched Earth" policy as a means to protect it's national security.

All it took was that one stupid ass comment to reduce your credibility to ZERO.

Iran has to IMPORT gasoline because they cannot refine enough of their own... and their oil exports have dropped over the last decade because their oil infrastructure has been allowed to erode.

Iran has big economic and social problems to deal with just like most other countries do.

Taking over a couple of small islands from a weak country and forcibly removing those living there is not something that gives their right to that land credibility.

Wait until they finally push too far and piss off someone with the ability to do something about it and see where that gets them. I am sure you will be on here whining about how they are being treated unfairly... which will show your true colors.

This is all part of a plan to further isolate Iran.

Problem is, the more isolated Iran gets the more radical and dangerous they become.

With sanctions and diplomacy we've only added desperation to their plans. They believe that this is all the fulfillment of prophecies. The great Satan is their enemy, and will be defeated.

We've helped create this monster, and have yet to learn of it's true potential danger... But we will soon enough.

Iran's neighbors and the world are turning against them, and eventually the regime will see only one way out.
