Cop had his heart in the right place but wrong execution....If he knew it was indeed ammonia, he could had stayed up wind, held his breath, and moved quickly into the fog to pull the guy clear...He stayed in the ammonia cloud for no good reason trying to treat the guy.... I know in standard protocol the victim ain't suppose to be moved due to risk of aggravating traumatic injuries....but in this case the victim will die if left in the fog....in rescue work, you can't become a victim yourself.... Anhydrous ammonia smells worse than most anything you could imagine. I cannot for the life of me understand why he did not stay the fuck back from that. It's as if he moved out there from Brooklyn NY or something. That shit immediately takes your breath away. |

If you happen upon an accident scene, with a large clOud of smoke that IS NOT coming from a car engIne, don't fucking go near it! Is the smoke coming from the ominous white tank one of the trucks was pulling? Holy shit don't breathe it in!!! Especially if the driver is dead in the middle of the road. Im sorry that this officer lost his life or had his brain hemorrhage instantly, but this video should be used in any Emergency medical class as an example of what you DO NOT DO. You have to survey the scene, not just run blindly into the field half cocked! |

I've seen it several times at my workplace when the rescue services have responded to an automated gas-leak alarm. They've always been false alarms, but every time the firemen arrived wearing rubber suits and full face masks. When I was young, I worked for a really small town. We used chlorine gas to inject into the water supply. My boss popped the regulator off to change out a tank. ONE breath, put him in the hospital for 3 days. The cop should have looked at the tank. Sorry to see this happen, he was trying to save a life, and gave his instead. I love physics. It bonds us eternally, it's what makes our computers work, it's what's in my morning cup of coffee, it's the thing that keeps the universe from vanishing due to lack of belief... |
