For all we know right now, lake vostok is a factual record of the true history of this plant. It can also be construed as a quagmire of ancient history as most in power tend to destroy these records...

Results analyzed from a pristine water sample from the depths of Lake Vostok might surface to no avail.

Keep in mind, some of these results might be factual, but propaganda will dictate how this lake will be remembered in folklore.

After all, it's the way things are done on earth...
