Re: Lake Vostok
So, an analysis of the 40 liters of pristine water extracted from vostock will be announced at the leisure of a russian science team?

What the fuck is that all about?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15681209

It's their water.

It's their show.

It's their data.

They are not going to release that data before they are ready to publish there own papers.

If you got a problem with that write a letter to the Russian Academy of Sciences at: 119991 Moscow, Leninskii avenue, 14.

That's why I call bullshit

This vastok info should have been public long ago.

No really

If they're not trying to hide anything, why not publish the findings. This is not pomp and circumstance type bullshit. This is a sample of history dating back millions of years.

As if scientist aren't used to that.

A palaeontology department that gets its hands on a nice specimen of a yet unknown species of dinosaur wouldn't show it to the press either.
Not until they're ready.

There's more to doing science then just measuring and analysing things.
You have to figure out what the data means.
You have to draw conclusions and to be able to defend them.
Then you publish your findings: data, reasoning, and conclusions.

They called dibs.

Okay my fellow amazing distant relatives that are into amazing stuff !
This is my theory...
I found out that there are earthquakes that have been recorded below lake Vostok also i look at the bedrock geology and geologists say there is a fault line running through the lake bed.
This is where sh*t gets real.
All around the world there are millions of miles of underwater rivers under every continent.
SOOOOO ; ) as might now realize. I dont think its as pristine as you would think. Underground rivers and water tables could be feeding water from other areas of the planet including the ocean into Lake Vostok.

A minute ago, I did a search using "lake vostok news" and discovered nothing past the middle of february.

Some of the more recent posts on this thread reason that it's business as usual.

Don't think so...

Your theory of millions of miles of underground rivers connecting globally is plausible. But, if you refute the virginity of lake vostok water, please post a link...

Re: Lake Vostok
The articles I read (some as old as 2004, granted) all said basically the same thing. The plan was to allow the water to refreeze in the hole and remove the plug of frozen water after the fact in order to avoid as much contamination as possible. Therefore, they could not have yet taken the sample if they had to leave immediately, as was implied. This may not be the actual case, I am no Russian scientist, but that was the way I understood it. The actual sample for study will not be taken until they return.

I confess, I have not heard of this "40 liters" of which you speak, does anyone have a link? Putin was given some of this water? Link? I like to learn new things. :)

I think you will wait a long time for answers to your questions.

Who can validate the 40 liters?

Was Putin given a sample?

Who will validate the vostok water sample?

Too many questions, no answers...

Can you provide a link to that info? thanks

All of the articles I read suggest they actually retrieved a 40 liter water sample for immediate analysis. Most of this info is dated to the middle of February.
