Why would he be late - time perspective is different when you get older, much different. Don't worry young ones, someday you will also get there. Unless the admiral left his military record off the app, he would be well known in that store by reputation. |

Quoting: my2centsworth I think its [link to wiki.answers.com] An Admiral in the US navy is pay grade O-10, with a minimum salary of a bit over $15,000 per month - since that's the salary for 20 years of service and it normally takes considerably longer than that to reach Admiral rank, a more typical amount would be close to $17,000 per month. Depending on length of service, it could potentially be up to $18,675 per month. |

I think he's doing this to give his life purpose, or to keep in touch with people.. as Madame X pointed out... As you get older, your perspective on what is important to you can change and it probably keeps him younger, mentally and emotionally which must be important to him. It also seems to me, that he could be donating his wage or a good portion of it, to charities for all we know. Last Edited by my2centsworth on 04/18/2012 08:12 PM |

Quoting: Laura Bow I don't have the answer to that.... I wondered that myself. My thoughts are that they are protecting his privacy. I really don't know. When I googled this story, several sites ran it. So I believe it is a true story, or I wouldn't have posted it. |

My appologies GLP.. turns out this story is NOT TRUE So true M2C, many workaholics die shortly after retirement for they become lost. No hobbies, no family left that needs them. Without purpose in life, there is no life. I currently see it happening in someone I care for deeply that retired a vibrant man at 80, now 83, he was going downhill fast until his wife became ill and saving her became his purpose in life and he rose to the occasion. Everyone needs to do in life, it is what we were born to do. "The wise man's home is the universe." ~ Democrites Catch the blue train...somewhere down that crazy river. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14091541 AC...541, I have to ask. Who the hell are you? to call Walmart shoppers "trash"! I agree Walmart has hurt many mom and pop shops, but, they do hire a lot of people, which in it's own way is also good for your communities.. their business practices, I don't agree with.. but, to call people shopping there trash! that just goes way too far. |

My appologies GLP.. turns out this story is NOT TRUE My aunt inherited land worth in the multi-millions. She retired from working in a small business and has no cash income other than Social Security and some small pasture rental income. She works as a WalMart greeter so that she can pay her expenses and pass the land on intact to her grandchildren. (I'm going to be cynical here - I bet they will sell it within the first year of inheriting it.) |

I'd imagine she will have some stipulations in her will to ensure the land doesn't get chopped up subdivided and sold. But what you have just verified is that there are more reasons than we could imagine, for people to continue working well into their retirement years. |
