Hi Im a plant scientist.
I was recently in the forest with my son and he
came in contact with the nettles too.
The tricomes are in fact hyperdermic and sting your skin with acids and crystals.

Your having a histimic reaction to the sting and you endorphin levels are probably high and heart rate high which induces an awake effect.

The best thing to do is take an antihistimine for this, but even better is to treat it in the field immediately with what is available.

Two plants will treat this effectively.
the first is Jewel weed also know as touch me not.
They are succulent and the stems are full of fluid.
Take this plant and crack open the stem and mash it up so the juice flows out. Rub this directly on the welts the nettle leaves, the stinging will stop and not return also you can use the nettle plant itself in THIS VERY WAY.

The nettle stem is also succulent, so grab it at the base and break it off. crush the stem until the fluid flows out and rub this directly on the welts. They sill stop stinging and go away.

My son is very fair and sensitive to this kind of thing and the nettle stems worked great for him.

Great advice, or you could just wear clothes when you go outside...

By some quirk, I always find jewel weed growing near nettles....

Re: I was stung by stinging nettles yesterday and couldn't sleep all night
Guys, I have no problem with swelling/itching, I’m curious if this could keep me awake all night…
I got one answer that it is possible, but what is bugging me, is that I was stung soooo little.
Or maybe something else was the reason for that sleepless night (no, no sex grinning)

I was able to sleep for 6.5 hoursura
So it was either the nettles or my snoring, kicking son, or the combination of both. But I love nettles and I love my son, so...Everything is good!

Thanks for your advice and kipping me company!drinks

i had a near disaster squatting to pee (female) in what turned out to be a
nettle patch. . . was in a hurry, had to get rainbibs etc. down and fortunately
just barely brushed the nettles . . . that was a wake-up call !

good emergency treatment advice here
