Dangers of lucid dreaming
I used to be an avid lucid dreamer in my 30s, but gave it up after a scary experience. I was in perfect control of my dream when I noticed a pale tall man who was standing still in the periphery of my dream vision. I could sense that he was watching me and his form seemed to be unusually clear and intense for a dream character.

There seemed to be a vague sense of power/threat emanating from him, so I tried to do what I usually do to threatening characters in lucid dreams: reduce their size until they disappear completely.

Nothing happened. The environment around him mutated, but he started moving towards me. I told the dream ground to open up and swallow him, but he just floated over the pit that opened in the ground. Finally, I made a concerted effort to blow him away with a strong gust of wind, but it didn't work. At that point he was already standing next to me and I found that - even though I was still lucid dreaming - I couldn't move, lost control of the dream and felt his thoughts penetrate mine like countless icy tendrils.

It's hard to explain, but it felt like my mind had been trapped. I was still aware and conscious in my dream, but I had lost all control over the dream. I couldn't even make myself wake up. He was probing my thoughts at will and I sensed that I shouldn't resist - he could crush my mind any time he wanted. I don't know if he "told" me that or if it was just something that I knew.

After a while I felt something that could only be described as indifference or boredom, and the mental tendrils withdrew. When I was free, I woke myself up with an effort.

This disturbing experience made me stop lucid dreaming. If there are things like this invading our dreams, it's better not to be aware of them.

Has anyone else had bad lucid dreaming experiences?

You got somebody's attention. Was he dressed all in gray, a simple garment, and look sort of monochromatic? It does not sound like you were in any danger. Don't feel bad that he pwned you; humans don't have nearly as much experience with mind/reality control as many species. Your species has been deliberately and maliciously dumbed down in that regard. That is changing, and you are part of that change.

I want to know what you were doing in the dream. Perhaps it was something inappropriate. Understand that you might not have been able to tell it was inappropriate. This is not a judgment, just a possible reason why you were interfered with.

Don't stop your lucid dreaming because of this experience. Ask for a guide to help you so that you expand your abilities in a responsible manner. Many cool things await! When you get good enough, you will no longer be bothered by things that seem threatening because you will no longer be operating in a mode that admits the possibility of negativity.

Sweet dreams! :)

This doesn't mean something entered your dream/vision or whatever you want to call it.

I have had my share of lucid dreams from wehre i was a child to where i am now. I have many lucid dreams where i can fly but for some reason i suddenly kept falling out of the sky, and then get back up again.

It was like the ability to fly was fading away from me. Do you have a person sleeping next to you? You know a partner maybe when he/she moves it disturbs your dream because your physical body is about to wake up or something to that extend.

He was tall, slender and very dark gray. I'm not sure if he had any limbs - he floated just above the ground. He had a torso, head and a face, but the face was somehow obscured from me. Not covered, but obscured as if I couldn't focus on it.

I wasn't doing anything particular. Just playing with the dreamscape, experimenting with morphing things, and floating around.

That's what I had thought before: everyone I see is me. Now I'm not so sure anymore.

I had trained myself to induce lucid dreaming almost at will and had done a lot of lucid dreaming before this event. Talking with my dream fragments was great fun, especially telling them at some point that "you know, you are a character in my dream and a product of my mind".

Flying is a tricky business. If you concentrate on doing it, you'll fall or wake up. My best flying trick was not to fly but be weightless. I would get in the air by going weightless, pushing sharply with my toes and letting the wind (which I could, of course, control) fly me around.

Yes, my wife sleeps next to me.

who told you that everything you see is you? that belongs to dream interpretations, but not to lucid dreaming or astral projection. when you create OBE or just flip into the astral, you can see other entities and they are not you.
i dont get it - why did you stopped lucid dreaming just when you began to get into the most interesting part?
other entities can scare you yeah, but not kill you. yo ustill have power, though their telepathic skills could be awesome. also they are so quick that they act towards your thoughts. so lose fear and agression - you basically attacked him when he was just watching at you. it was you who entered into THE FIELD and you thought you own it. nope- its for public use lol :)

How can you just make yourself stop lucid dreaming? Do you initiate it in the first place?

I once was flying back into my physical body from a lucid dream, and as I came back into my bedroom, I was able to glimpse for only a second or so this being standing at the foot of my bed with outstretched arms towards my bed, and it looked just like the Ringwraiths of Lord of the Rings. This "glimpse" was even more lucid than lucid dreaming.

When you fear something you give it power over you, you ceded sovereignty to that thing through fear. I never tried or learnt to lucid dream it just happens. You need to be fearless.

You got my attention.
I had an experience not totally unlike the "OPs".
In mine I was sitting at a bar talking to some friends and all of a sudden everything stopped... except me. all time had stopped. I knew that it was supposed to effect me as well so I tried to fake that I was stopped/frozen. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a small being come into the bar wearing a tan/brown full length garment with a hood. I couldn't see a face.
I knew he was looking for the person who wasn't "frozen" in time and I was trying to fake it.
He slowly walked past me and I thought I had fooled him when all of a sudden he turned back to me and looked into my face and smiled.

I don't try to lucid dream anymore but it does happen without my trying though.

My question is why you asked about what the being was wearing... because for me that was probably the most frightening thing about the experience. The beings non assuming attire. Just a woolish type garment that covered hes body from head to toe.

Re: Dangers of lucid dreaming
I had a similar experience.

I was dreaming that I was looking through the books in my "book room", then I went lucid.

I decided to be brave for this lucid dream. So I yelled out, "Who the f**** controls this world!?" and for some reason, I made a pyramid with my hands and looked through with one eye (like that music industry eye thing they do). I guess my subconscious was basically saying, "who controls the Illuminati?"

I really had no expectation... Just seeing if there were any secrets I could find out. Good or bad.

But...

I faded uncontrollably into a cold blackness. I then felt a pressure building on my chest. It was sort of like a Giant pinning me down with one foot.

Like OP, no words were said, but the "entity" basically told me telepathically "ÿou wanted to meet me didn't you? this is me. I am scary. I am more powerful than you. now stop asking questions."

So I screamed with a real voice "OK OK I give up!!"

The pressure left. my chest.

I struggled to wake up quickly.

It was very scary.

I almost wonder if you barely escaped sleep paralysis. Lucid dreaming can sometimes cause sleep paralysis and one of the side effects is a heavy pressure on your body, like you're being held down. It can also cause hallucinations and stuff like that. I don't know, but it just came to mind when I read this.

Re: Dangers of lucid dreaming
Oh dear god. I got a similar sort of thing, only mine was a lot more... aggressive.

I started lucid dreaming naturally two years ago, and I still lucid dream about once every two months. I don't know how to control them, but I love it when it happens, although idk about you guys but I always feel absolutely exhausted and completely drained of emotion and imagination for days afterwards.

Anyway, I can always control my dreams. Except, twice, in my dream there was this man - he was always kind of unclear, though I noticed he wasn't particularly tall - more on the short side, actually - and he always seemed... angry. Like, very, very angry. With long dark hair. Both the times I encountered him, he pretty much smouldered in the corner while I tried to ignore him, and the minute I turned my full attention onto him to remove him from existance, he charged. As in, he just pelted towards me and started chasing me with this inhuman scream. I've never been able to change anything about him, though I've been able to change things on the way, like throwing doors open and trying to throw things in his path. I can't even make myself wake up; it's downright terrifying.

Of course, it's very different to your experience, but still. Thought I'd share.
