I don't know of any garden seeds sold that are GMO hybrid yes GMO no. There's nothing wrong with hybrids unless you want to collect seed and expect following seasons to be the same plant. ALL seeds are hybrid to some point even in nature some have just been breed to breed true ie every seasons plants look like the previous years plants. What I think you're looking for is Heirloom they breed true so seed collection is not a problem. Hybrids are nothing more than the cross between two varieties of say tomatoes. Usually higher production and disease resistance are the advantages. The reason GMOs aren't sold to the public is they require a contract so the producer (you know who) can control the seed Google Heirloom seeds HAVE FUN there are many! |

Corn/beans/squash is a nice protein source, too. What are you talking about? What won't cross pollinate? If one wants to be able to seed save, unless they are breeders, they are best to make sure the plants they save seed from doesn't cross pollinate, particularly with GMO seed. Corn is not high in protein I wouldn't buuy seed from here because i'm not trying to grow seed stored in aluminum. Seeds don't need to be stored in aluminum. This site and that advice is concerning, to say the least. IF you want good seed there are two of my favorite and most trusted sources. You want heirloom organic that DOES cross pollinate - not terminator seed - if you want to be able to save seed and become sufficient. And be healthy... try seedavers.org or botanicalintersts.com |

I've had various kinds of beans in a single pack or multiple types of carrots the point is test the breeders as well as the seeds if they don't perform dump em. There are hundreds if not more that sell Heirlooms |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9488664 [link to www.seedsavers.org] NOT THE CHEAPEST ONE.. Jere Gettle of Baker Creek started out with Seed Savers when he was a teenager...and went on to start his own business with heirlooms. I have been very happy with seeds from Seed Savers in the past. Sometimes you can find lists where you can swap as well, and many local extension offices have free seeds, sometimes a donated rack of organics and sometimes even a local seed bank. Might be worth checking into. |

The only place near me that sales non gmo seeds wants almost 4 dollars a pack. Quoting: patdeez84 You need to look not only at price, but also at seed count and germination rate, as well as reputation of seller. Some of the companies out there sell $2.50 packets of non-GMO seed but there are fewer seeds in the packets and fewer of them will actually sprout. Some companies are also linked to GMO seed growers and may have cross contaminated seeds, or at least hybridized seeds, that they claim are non-GMO. I have bought from The Ark Institute for years. They have huge seed counts and I have seen 3 year old seed germinate at nearly 100% from them. They typically have 50% or 75% more seed per packet than the more commercial seed companies, and for about the same price, so you're getting much more for the cost. Free Shipping doesn't hurt either! www.arkinstitute.com they also offer to ship your seeds dried and sealed in heavy-duty mylar bags so that they can be preserved for years. |
