Due to cell organization of Daedalus I have access only to publishing arm. It is therefore difficult to be certain, but it is clear Daedaleans are closing in on operability. Most components are complete and there is increasing cross-chatter with other cells.
As to the intended outcome of the project, I have reason to suspect the Hypermusic.67 was not canceled; other skunkworks may have been scratched off government books but research not actually discontinued. Interference is implicated all the way back to NOLO operators.

Refs to studies on Perseus, Condor, Strato, and a fourth; name unknown? Please proceed!

Good work on the recent report. Daedalus Control shows similar signs of greater activity and anticipation recently, with, unfortunately, a matching increase in security. Nonetheless, I have been able to get a look at some of the incoming correspondence and decode pieces based on your recent clues. Investigation turned up signs of another false "shutdown" — a project nominally closed 2008 despite the completion of working prototype. Same type of craft as the Perseus, Condor, etc, but intended for launch from submarines. And a reference to Trident...? Do you recognize the project?

Do please be careful, 7S. I know you and Daedalus Control have a long history, but he is extremely committed to the success of the project, and if he finds you've been playing for the other side all this time... well, just watch yourself.
It does look as though there are some additional projects involved beyond simple aircraft construction; here are the indicators I have been able to assemble so far.

— mention of following up work by "bad boy of robotics"
— applying similar learning concepts to "'pelican formation' project"

I think they've named the resulting experiment by joining together the names of those two projects. Any guesses at your end?

At last a decent mystery on GLP!

I'll follow this as it develops but here are a few quick thoughts on Edward Youmans and Herbert Spencer.

Youmans was the founder of Popular Science and died in 1887 in New York. He was closely connected with the famous Victorian scientist Herbert Spencer, who lived until 1903.

The encrypted section sounds like a late 19th c letter to the astronomer Percival Lowell, who built the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff AZ in 1896. The same Lowell who discovered the "canals on Mars"! This is due to the reference to Flagstaff.

I don't know whether Spencer had a particular interest in "manned flight", which sounds a bit anachronistic from 1896 (surely they would talk about "powered flight" instead?) But the history seems to line up right.

Now for some speculation: the 1890s was the time when the "phantom airships" were buzzing the Midwest and other parts of the US, and the world. If - a big "if" - Youmans, Spencer and Lowell were involved in flight in some secret way, where better to test their airships than the big open spaces of the West? A number of researchers think these early airships were the result of a secret project.

If this is projected forwards through the 20th century, it may mean there's been an ongoing secret flight project running behind the scenes of the public development of aviation. What role have the "Daedalians" played in all this?

Daedalus might be a very old project, and one that the founders of Popular Science were closely involved with.

They are saying that someone went physically into their archives in modern time and left them a note they would find to point them to an internal file in their computer system. The file was encrypted so that nobody from the magazine can get in, but they want them to know its there.
