the story relates to the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and their journey into the afterlife. It was believed that every person had a Ka, a spiritual duplicate, and that such Ka accompanied them throughout eternity. Since the Ka provided the person with a resurrected body in the kingdom of the dead, but could not exist without the maintenance of the earthly body, every effort was made to preserve the human corpse. The body was, therefore, prepared for afterlife according to the elaborate magic rituals passed down from Isis, who, according to legend, singularly perfected the rituals of mummification through her work on Osiris. Of particular interest were the related curses placed throughout Egyptian tombs as a warning against intruders. They announced the ghastly repercussions awaiting those daring to disturb the corpse. Stories like the Mummy´s Curse and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow reflect such pagan notions.

The "protection circles" are also based on the magic rituals of Isis. Wiccans accept Isis as the undisputed queen of such magic and the goddess sovereign of the afterlife. Isis was venerated in this way by the ancient Egyptians, . Her enchantments and magic words were considered to be of the highest importance for the preparation and navigation of this world and the afterlife. It was believed that Isis possessed powerful secret words, and that she instructed her followers how, when, and with what vocal tones they were to be uttered. If the proper words were pronounced perfectly--at the right time of the day and with the proper ceremony, they could effect reality, manipulate the laws of physics, and force the being or object to which they were directed into compliance, including evil spirits like the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:13).

In the near future an evil man will rise from the Darkness. At first he will appear to be a man of superior intelligence, wit, charm, and diplomacy. But his profound comprehension and irresistible presence will be the result of an invisible network of thousands of years of collective knowledge. He will, like the pharaohs , represent the embodiment of a very old and super-intelligent spirit. As Jesus was the "seed of the woman" (Gen. 3:15), he will be the "seed of the serpent."

Although his arrival in the form of a man was foretold by numerous Scriptures, the broad masses of the world will not recognize him as paganism´s ultimate incarnation--the "beast" of Revelation 13:1. He too will ride in on a horse (Rev. 6:8), experience a deadly head-wound (Rev. 13:3), be manipulated by witchcraft and paganism (Rev. 9:20-21), and cause people to be decapitated (Rev. 20:4). But his defeat comes through another man sitting astride a white horse. His name is Jesus. All things were created through Him and for Him, and in Him all things consist. "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war" (Rev. 19:11).
