I own a Siberian Husky, she's a year and a half old, and is by far, the smartest dog I've seen.
Can open doors when i ask her to (the handle, not the knob) Rings a bell when she has to go outside. Well behaved, doesn't chew on anything that isn't hers.

Good off leash (surprisingly) comes when we call her.

Maybe I got lucky.

maybe it helps that I take her running all the time.

Cool, then let's put doown all the rest of the dog breeds...anyone who hates on pitbulls has never raised one from birth and given them obedience, agility, and protection (defensive) training. Right? i bet you had one before and didn't train it for sh+t and actually left it in a backyard to rot. OP, take the dog for walks or take it to a field so he can run, on a daily basis. He will appreciate it. Otherwise, expect hell.

1. Get a motorcycle or a bicycle and train the dog to run beside you

2. stop whining.

3. be a man.

I have one from 8 weeks to 11 years old. He was the most intelligent dog I have owned, once he passed I swore I would never get another dog.

I haven't thus far...

I started to train him when he was 4 months old and by the time he turned 2 years, he acted more human then a four legged animal. The way he was able to so called "speak", almost like he was trying to mimic me speaking to him.

I had numerous offers for his stud service, because other husky owners love how he was so playful but protective. It all depends on how one wants to interact with their dog, do they want to put the time and effort into training.

One last thing, not once did I ever have to raise a hand towards that dog. I have heard that Huskies are runners and un-trainable, depends on the owner.

When I got my dog she was the last on of the litter. All her brother's & sister's were adopted, but she had severe kennel cough and was the runt of the litter. When I got her she was three pounds and they thought the kennel cough had gone away. Well it didn't & she had issues with her trachea.

She slept with me for an entire year & was on expensive meds for about 8 months. Every night she would wake up coughing violently & I would have to get up and give her medicine. It was in a honey base liquid medicine, so she liked it, which helped. I felt so bad for her, she was so little.

My spouse slept in the office during this time cause he said he could not get any sleep.

Some dogs are just more work than others. You have to train them. My one dog chewed up everything in his sight & pooped on the carpet while I was at work, so I kept him in the spare bathroom with a baby gate when I went to work.Then he learned how to get out, so I closed the door. He realized the only thing that was gonna work was being good. One day I thought we would give him a chance & came home to the Christmas tree on the floor & wires chewed up, so back to the bathroom he went.

That went on for months before he finally learned. Now he is free to roam anywhere in the house freely. He knows to be quite & not bark while we are sleeping. He waits till we get home to do his business.

This dog was given up by the first owners cause he hid behind the toilet all the time. The girl said he pooped on the floor while she was at work. She couldn't take it.

My advice would be to train the dog or give him to someone who has the patience to train him.
