I believe it was a quake a few seconds prior I could feel the energy building. Literally right before.

Thats really weird... like 15 min prior i had a feeling of calm and being really centered... literally I said in my head, wow i feel really calm today.

go figure.

Yea, that was intense and lasted like 3 seconds. Our whole house shook.

I agree...It went boom..shook the house but didn't feel like an earthquake. I looked to see if my Chandeliers were moving and they were not!

Laguna Beach! We shook hard for about 3 seconds, but it was the inital boom that made my hands shake this time! Live on 3 level house that goes down the mountain, so always exhilirating to see if I end up in the ocean! Was in DC for last one in August, and that was a rattler, this was a boomer! Still feel DC wasn't a quake...

I live in San Clemente and that was short but intense. I at first thought earthquake, but because it did not last too long I thought perhaps it was Camp Pendleton doing what they do. Now I know it was the 3.9 quake centered in Laguna Niguel.

Yes the same here, boom (sonic boom type) then the windows shook........ was trying to find info but nothing yet..... but did find something we didnt hear about on the news..... look up "Meteor's sonic boom April 23 2012" interesting.

I am in the OC foothills too, and it was just like OP described. Short (few seconds) but quite a jolt - not rolling.

This one was on, or very close to, the Newport-Inglewood fault (well overdue for a M7.0+). Not trying to panic anyone, but be aware.

I believe it was a foreshock, not trying to scare anybody..just be aware that they have been getting larger.

I would say most, if not all, the faults in CA have been overdue a 7.0 for many years now. The coil is being turned ever tighter with each passing month. Could this 3.9 be the straw that breaks the camels back? BE PREPARED in any case.

It felt like an underground bomb explosion in the beginning. Living in the canyon areas of San Clemente, and about 3 miles from the northern edge of Camp Pendleton as well as about 6 miles north of San Onofre Nuclear. Camp Pendleton military base very very often do underground bombing practices. So that is what it seemed like at first. It was the jerky shaking and rattling that last about 4 seconds that made something familiar to this area different. Hope this is it.

I agree. I never get feelings about anything but I have a pretty strong feeling about this...I think it's coming soon somewhere in the US and feels like CA.

What time was this? Didn't feel anything here in San Gabriel valley.
