I want to buy a gun this coming May | |

I remember that people on here saying to go for the AK-47, but the AR-15 will be more easy to find in America considering it is used in the armed forces and police forces. I would buy the barrel that allows me to fire the 5.56 round along with the .223 round. What other guns would you guys recommend that I look at, more for a SHTF scenario? They have slightly different specs. .223 Remington is the sporting round. 5.56x45mm is the NATO designation of a similar round. GKBSFIM: Get Knowledge Before Sticking Foot In Mouth 5.56 data: [link to en.wikipedia.org] .223 Remington data: [link to en.wikipedia.org] You can redeem yourself by telling us the differences. This really shouldn't be an issue almost all ARs in the $600-$700 range accept both Definately not an "issue". Just hate people that spout off stuff thats not true. I've run both through both, if you know what I mean and never had any pressure problems. I'm a technical reloader and I can read pressure with the best of them. Frankly, I've never found there to be ANY difference in shooting. Theoretically there should be a slight pressure difference when putting the longer case in the shorter chamber, but, I've never seen it. Just don't try to convince me "they are the same". I had a guy try to tell me a 30-06 Springfield and a .308 Winchester were the same. ...and he was VERY sure of himself. People that don't pay attention and don't listen to experience will eventually blow themselves up. I just don't want to be the guy thats picking pieces of his gun out of my scalp! |

It just shows me why the world is such a mess. Everybody wants flash and bang without even knowing what flash and bang really is. If you want to buy a gun to PLAY with, buy an AR. If you want one that will protect you WTSHTF but a good pump shotgun. Even a cheap break action is WAY better than nothing. For $200 I can fix someone up with a decent gun and all the ammo they need for WTSHTF and they'd be pretty well off. Add another $100 and you're good to go. But, according to NetRanger, you only need three guns. Google YONTG and read the article. You all need to stop watching "Doomsday Preppers", take the tinfoil hat off a think a little. Ugh. |
