Suboxone Detox - Hallucinogenic Dreams - DMT?
For those unaware, Suboxone is an alternative to methadone used for the treatment of opiate addiction. It is only a partial opiate agonist, but is still about 30 times stronger than morphine. After being on it for 5 years, I decided it was enough, and that I was going cold turkey (well, with the help of a BIT of xanax from my doctor, but I went through that was quicker than I should have). I also got this stuff called "Withdrawal-Ease", which is just an herbal supplement to supposedly ease the symptoms. The only substance it contains that is really worthy of noting is Valerian root, which is chemically comparable to Valium, but really nothing even close.

Ok, so I had about 8 days off the Suboxone, and about 5 since I had taken any xanax, and I still feel like shit. I haven't slept more than an hour or so at a time since I started, and I just generally feel terrible. So, last night I'm laying on the couch (as to not keep the wife awake), watching TV, trying to fall asleep. As I'm laying there, I start to feel a strange feeling...I'm still awake and aware, but I feel this very calming feeling coming over my body. It felt similar to a DMT experience, just a bit more mild... then I start to drift off to sleep....

I "awaken" in a dream state, and it would take me hours to explain this dream, but I was basically searching for my wife and son in this strange (but very familiar place) and couldn't find them. I would encounter people from my past... people I hadn't thought of in years. People whom, for all intents and purposes, I had forgotten ever existed. Then I woke back up.... I still felt that buzzing feeling like I was tripping. I got up, got a drink of water, fell back asleep... and the exact same dream continued, picking up exactly where it left off.

This happened at least 6 times throughout the night, each time the dream would continue, and I would continue to feel as if I were tripping. I've experimented with tons of drugs in my days, and DMT is the only one I could say would be comparable. There's NO WAY a little Valerian Root could cause this, especially considering I'd taken it for 7 previous nights. The entire experience seemed to last hours and hours... however, i only really slept in 10 minute increments. I'm pretty sure that this was probably just a natural part of the detoxification process... maybe my body just getting rid of the "toxins". Whatever the case, it was a profound experience, and I was saddened for it to end. It was terrifying yet exciting.

Hallucinogenic Dreams are from withdrawal...they will go away!
People don't realize that drug addiction has a spiritual side along with the physical side!
The physical withdrawal is only half the battle, lasting a few months.
The mental battle of addiction can last for years.
I have been clean from opiates and Xanax for 2 years on may 1st. Sometimes I still have a mental battle.
Don't know if you are religious or not OP, but I couldn't have won my battle if not for Jesus Christ! Call on him for help, he WILL help you.
I was a 20-30 pain pill a day addict for 13 years, not counting Valium and Xanax (Which are worse than pain Pills). I tried everything...counseling, therapy, Suboxone,
Methadone, taper down, 12 step program. NOTHING HELPED. When I called on Jesus the craving and desire went away!
PM me if you need to talk!

Re: Suboxone Detox - Hallucinogenic Dreams - DMT?
Thanks for all the kind words... I've never been a spiritual or religious man... I dunno. I understand the psychological side of things is the difficult part, but the physical side is just making life so difficult... knowing that all I need is one little thing to feel 100% normal and OK. Fuckin sucks. I've been off dope for about 5 years, and basically had a hired gun (Doctor) just writing me all the xanax and suboxone I wanted. He had no plan to taper me down, nothing like that. I had been taking 8 mg a day for 5 years!!!! I did taper down a bit during the prior week or so, but it's difficult to do so when you have it in your possession.

I actually hope for the dreams to continue, but I'm fairly certain they won't. Strangely enough, I dreamed about the same ex-girlfriend 2 nights in a row. The first night she was having sex with my wife (which my wife seemed to thoroughly enjoy) and the second night her and I were together in a limo, both wearing suits, going somewhere... but she was trying to scam money from me. It just makes me wonder... I haven't thought of her in years. How does she end up in a dream?

Anyway... I just gotta suck it up. I keep thinking about going to the ER to scam pain pills or something... but I'm not going to. I got 10 days now.

You see, I don't believe that. Perhaps, in the beginning, people take different drugs for different reasons. But once one develops a physical dependency on a substance, it has nothing to with resentment or common sense. In fact, common sense goes out the window... all that matters is getting the drugs, by whatever means necessary.

However, I made my own bed, I'm responsible for my actions, so... yeah, I'll be OK.

negative thoughts hound the mind of addicts,if an addict carries on thinking hatred or evil be it for an x,their mother/dad,neighbour the craving will take control, its a spiritual war and nothing besides..............

thats why the first few weeks breaking an addiction are the hardest, drugs make the mind negative, there is no doubt about this!

Re: Suboxone Detox - Hallucinogenic Dreams - DMT?
The process of going from a sober state of mind to that of being in the throes of a DMT trip is actually quite similar to the process of going from a state of addiction to a non-psychedelic drug to that of being sober.

I also don't think the Valerian root is the source of the psychedelic effects and dreams. In both processes, your mind is experiencing the lifting of a veil. In this case, your subconscious (which had basically been numbed by the addiction for 5 years) is now free to express itself in your dreams as it ought to.

A few times in my life, I've also been able to re-enter a dream state where I had left off. I do envy you for that because it's been a long time since for me, and I know how profoundly wonderful these types of experiences can be. Can't say I envy the circumstances that led to it, though ;)

The psychedelic experience is a natural experience, so your assessment of what you experienced being a natural part of the detox process probably isn't far off at all.

The only advice I offer is to continue doing what you started here - keep a journal, dream-log, this topic, etc. There are going to be a lot of things that are pure distractions, but there will be many significant things your subconscious will be trying to tell you after being forced into the shadows for years.

I ran out of my Suboxone on Thanksgiving day...

Wow.

No fun -

By dinner I was getting sick -

This happens, three times a year, reminds me I'm still an addict -

Point being,

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

I come off of Suboxone, my dreams are always "sci-fi" in nature.... from a spaceship where they were harvesting my organs (and my dead Grandmother looking at me all zombie-like saying "Take Organ Donor off your license") to, last night, just... wow.

Smoke weed and tough it out. Few days and you'll be right as rain. But you have to have the heart to want it.
