Why Being Filthy Rich is Bad for You (and the rest of us)
Anyone who has worked hard for a living knows what the satisfaction of providing for ones self and earning your keep feels like. If you are comfortable in this economy or even well off, for most of us, it's because you earned your way there. However, be careful what you aspire to, because once you cross that line into the upper class there may be no going back to being a regular person.

Yes, the ruling class, the nobles if you will, have existed in every culture since time immemorial. In western culture we generally measure ones success by the rule of more = better. We strive for it, teach it to our kids and judge others based on it. We are led by the dream that "one day I could be that rich" or "one day these guys could be working for me" when increasingly that gap is widening.

Is it any surprise that over the last decade or so the "service industry" has been one of the only job sectors with continued growth while traditional blue collar job numbers dwindle? After all, what would being filthy rich be without servants? Once I can live off my investments I don't even need to work anymore. Isn't that what we've always been taught to want? Then I could have someone drive me around, shine my shoes, cook my food, clean my house, raise my kids, grow my food, cut my grass, do my laundry and as long as they're in need of work I'm calling the shots right?

Once you reach that level of investor status your "job" is to move your fiat currency from one imaginary account to another imaginary account that says you are worth (x) and your return this quarter is (y). You lose touch with the human beings giving their all at the bottom of those industries. The cuts that had to be made to eek out that 4th consecutive quarter of growth. The lives that had to be squeezed to the breaking point and live off crumbs, take pay freezes, lay offs and cut corners to get you your extra .3 percent.

What are you really doing at that point? You out earn regular people 30 to 1, why you deserve to be where you are, to have what you have. Don't you? Therein lies the problem. You start to believe that your imaginary fiat money in your imaginary account entitles you to more than everyone else. When resources are running dry and rationing starts due to several bad years, are the ruling nobles of our world going to starve and ration like us? If North Korea can offer a contemporary example then the answer is a resounding no.

In fact if all you do is earn usury interest and be served, then you aren't a job creator you're a slave owner. Your a leech on the backs of hard working people the world over. Yes, since the dawn of man, certain people have tried to convince others and themselves that they are too smart to toil and gather food with everyone else. They've invented countless systems that legitimize and moralize their desire. In our world we idolize it.

Do you?

But I think the more damaging problem isn't a person's "gold" per se; it's his "grasp" of it.

Most people don't aspire to becoming filthy rich and realistically only a small, very lucky, or extremely talented do. At this point in time people are just trying to earn a living wage, which in itself is becoming increasingly difficult.

With all due respect this does not make any sense! Unless you speak of advancing our minds to a superior level of consciousness and following the word of god!!!!!!!! However this is not reality in any way. We can clearly see that society is driving by the EGO and this is completely NOT possible. We are at least at of a level of 60% of the populous one step above a chimpanzee! This is just NOT reality. Why due you hate success!!!!!!! Next thing you are going to start a rant on SOCIAL JUSTICE or some load of crap like that!!!!!!!!

Due respect indeed, however I don't hate success. I acknowledged up front that those of us that are even moderately successful did so by hard work, talent etc. and I applaud and respect hard work.

I am positing that the upper echelon have convinced themselves that they are entitled to more than everyone else when push comes to shove and I think that's dangerous thinking. I think that "gold fever" becomes insatiable and is damaging to your psyche. It will make you do things you never thought yourself capable of.

All ponzi schemes are just that 'schemes'. Sooner or later the people down the line end up broke. It is against the LAW. People go to jail for it. The whole banking system is simply a giant ponzi scheme. It was always doomed from day 1.

This is all fortold in the bible. Usury (lending with interest) is a great sin. If you loan someone money you cannot make a profit off of it, otherwise you are participating in a ponzi scheme.

I can see judging by the thread rating that my message isn't popular. That's no surprise however since many of us are from the most prosperous nation in the world where we are taught from day one we are innately superior. We already believe we are entitled to more than people in "lesser" countries..

Well, first off, there is nothing at all 'evil' about jealousy. Jealousy is being upset because you want back what is YOURS. Don't confuse it with 'envy'. By him accusing you of jealousy he is claiming that you are just upset that he has something of YOURS, which you have a right to be. It is YOURS, by his own admission. He is trying to have it both ways. He wants to have what he earns and some of what YOU earned (by ursury) and and expects you to be his new 'subject'. This way, eventually, once he has enough people like you paying ursury, he doesn't have to work. He get's to be a 'winner' and a 'bum'.

His casting names at you is a reactionary response because he knows, deep down, that he is just a 'sophisticated bum' involved in a ponzi scheme so he lashes out and accuses you of being him. Classic misdirection move.

He somehow must keep this idea that he 'deserves' some of YOUR money. Only YOU deserve YOUR money, or it wouldn't be yours. People who think like that are harboring ENVY...coveting anothers belongings. You will notice that these people can NEVER make the distinction between 'jealousy' and 'envy' and MUST equate them the same. It's is a fancy form of THIEVERY...This way they can point the finger back at you and say 'you are just jealous!!!! '. Well, your right to be jealous, you DESERVE what is YOURS and if it is none of theirs they admit that they DESERVE it not...They are seen as CROOKS, even in their own eyes.

Corner them with the 'terminology' and they are found out not to DESERVE a thing.

Ask them what you would deserve if you were to hotwire his car from his driveway and drive off with it. What would he say you deserve. TO GO TO JAIL is what he would say. But what is the difference? You are so skilled and knowledgable that you can bypass the key system...doesn't that mean you DESERVE that car since you are so smart?

Really deep analysis. Especially the distinction between envy and jealousy. Let's face it, usury is a great sin. We followed down that path and look where it got us. That should tell you everything you need to know when you see it play out. Yet somehow every day people with good intentions still support and defend the very system that enslaves them and will likely be a road we can never go back from.

Re: Why Being Filthy Rich is Bad for You (and the rest of us)
Well, first off, there is nothing at all 'evil' about jealousy.

Just to point out, there is nothing wrong with being 'wealthy'. If you work hard and smart and get 'ahead' there is no crime in that. It is the taking of ursury that cripples the system eventually. Ursury is a form of 'gaming' your way around working for a living, at the expense of the whole system.

Even say, a rock star, that get's rich for hardly 'working' at all, and simply has a talent, can become rich without destroying the 'little guy'. He/she makes their money by selling an album for $20 a million times over. Nobody is forced to buy it and there are no ongoing payments to be made at a compounded interest rate where you never can finish the payoff. A one time fee.

There is no crime in banks lending money. If they say "I will loan you $100,000 if you pay me back $110,000 over a 30 yr period". This is totally legitimate if it is your business...(actually, I need to think about this one. It could actually be ursury still?) It is the charging of interest at compounding rates that 'entraps' people and makes them slaves to the lender. That plus the fact that we live in a system that DEMANDS you participate or if you don't you are placed in the 'loser' class. If you are in the 'loser' class this, in thier minds, gives them a right to steal from you. So society becomes run with a 'gang' mentality where you must participate in the madness and participate in robbing the 'loser' class. If you don't participate then they just toss you into the 'loser' class.

I know this personally. I found a way out. I bought a small liveaboard sailboat and owned it outright, just me and the dog. Never felt so free in my life. I just paid a $300 docking fee a month and I was set. If I didn't even have that, oh well, I just anchored out in an anchorage and would dingy to shore and back, $0.

What happened? Eventually, after being chased off from place after place for NO valid legal reason, the COPS eventually STOLE MY BOAT... PIRACY... THE COPS

Re: Why Being Filthy Rich is Bad for You (and the rest of us)
I mostly disagree with you because I believe in free enterprise.
You use the word usury to mean any money loaned for interest or invested money that interest is earned on. That definition isn't really used anymore and the term usury now means interest that is exorbitant. The only time exorbitant interest is charged is usually when people don't pay off their credit cards or bank loans or they deal with loan sharks.

The problem with calling interest charged on loans or earned on investments usury is that there is a need for people to borrow money and someone has to provide that service. No one is going to do that for free. Would you loan money to a stranger for free? How can they be sure people will pay them back? A lot of people don't. They can't stay in business by handing out money for free, so they charge interest.

Why shouldn't people who earn and invest money earn money from the investments?
Whether you consider this arrangement moral or not, that is the way it works unless you live in a socialist country where everybody shares the wealth.

Why would any bank or credit card company loan you money for free? So it's just as much the fault of the person who goes out and buys things they can't afford and doesn't keep their bills paid up as it is the credit card companies for compounding interest on unpaid charges. The whole point is the convenience of buying now and paying later. That's what they are selling. People can choose to not use credit or they can pay their bills on time to avoid paying high interest.

Also, I disagree with the idea that it's usury to live off interest earned from investments. Companies need money from investors, so why wouldn't they pay their investors dividends?
If someone works for the money (or yes, even inherits it from someone else who worked for it) and saves and invests it, what is wrong with not having to work anymore? Yes, it is okay to think your "imaginary fiat" money entitles you to more than someone who doesn't have any money. That's the way a capitalist country works. You make the money, you get to keep it and enjoy all the perks that come with it.

Having said that I do agree with the point that there is a ruling class that is grossly overpaid. Examples: sports figures, movie actors and singers. But...the public is willing to pay the price to see them and that's how capitalism works. If you feel that way then you could boycott movies and sports events and refuse to be part of that - but you know most people aren't going to do that.

If you give the people what they want they will pay for it. That's how people get rich. If someone owns a successful company that makes millions then they are entitled to keep their profits. I don't like the fact that CEOs and upper executives get paid ridiculously high salaries, but if the owners are willing to pay them that then that's their business because they think they are worth it. People are paid for having skills that businesses want. If they don't have those skills, then they are going to have low paying jobs.

Maybe the real problem is that there has been too much effort to make everybody equal (as in middle class). First you needed a college degree to get a decent job, now you can't even get a job with a degree. You need an associates degree just to get a janitor job now. Why did we send all these people to college on govt. loans so that they would be overqualified to do service jobs? Somebody has to do those jobs.

Why did the govt. push bankers to give house loans to people who couldn't afford them and who eventually defaulted?

I agree the factory jobs shouldn't have all been sent overseas. The companies wanted cheaper labor and that was greedy and disloyal to this country.
I don't think you can blame rich people for being rich because if we buy their products and services then we are all part of the game.
