What baffles me is that all the hailstorms lately have been TOTALLY overlooked and ignored. You guys in England even had some pretty serious size hailstorms recently. Not a peep about those. Right this minute, in the USA, the radar is reporting 5-10 rather large hailstorms (1.25 inch hail) as we speak. Sun isn't even up yet. Not to get off topic. These are related, hail and tornados. that is. Anyone have any large at your locale? Seems to be a taboo subject even for GLP...Didn't know there was such a thing as a taboo subject for GLP. Hahaha I did find reports of 3 POUND hailstones in some parts of the world happening recently. Yes THREE POUNDS (you'll have to convert that to metric I suppose haha) Everyone seems totally mum on the subject.

The hailstorms come from convection. As the spring sun begins to warm the land up once more this warning (measured in Kj or CAPE) builds the clouds into showers, and given the instability of this energy keeps the hailstones aloft until they succumb to gravity. Colder air in the atmosphere also plays a part in the processes.
