I've said it before and I'll say it again.

We have no way of knowing how much information was lost in the Library of Alexandria. We are, most likely, only rediscovering that which was already known eons ago and they most likely rediscovered what had been lost from more ancient civilizations. This kind of hypothesis lends credibility to the Atlantis story and the countless other stories worldwide about civilizations and peoples that existed long before the stories were told, had advanced technology, and somehow snuffed themselves out with that technology.

As a scholar of Literature, this just makes sense to me. As a hobby linguist, it makes a great deal much clearer.
