Hi! Yes, I do know about this already but never knew they dubbed it U2charist sigh

Unfortunately, they went down the wrong road too in 20+ years time, much like the rest of the music industry.

I just love their sounds together...all blessed with God's gift to the end hf

A legendary performance, and what is so amazing is how young the band were when they wrote this song.

I would wholeheartedly disagree about the band going down the wrong road though. U2 and their music are as deeply spiritual now as they were back in 1987.

The music is still there, the depth of the songwriting and the spirituality is most definitely still there, in fact far deeper now.

It's just been dressed up with some fancy wrapping paper post The Joshua Tree to attract those who wouldn't ordinarily like U2 or understand them.

Theres a lot of commercial materialistic bullshit around the band, and I do dislike that somewhat, but sadly I would say that is all part and parcel of the music industry to a large degree. The spirituality in their music is still as deep as witnessed in the Harlem church performance above, you just have to get past the fancy wrapping paper that dresses up these days.

They are actually anything but NWO.

U2 are pro-humanity and pro-soul, sometimes you gotta get up close and personal to the enemy to understand and defeat them.

Theres been a great deal of that going on, particularly with the photo-opportunities between a certain band member and various PotUS and the like. I can guarantee you that said certain band members stomach churns with sickness during these occasions, but it has to be done.

Bullshit.

They reach millions during their tours.

All Bono has to do, to wake up a large portion of humanity, is to outright say during all their concerts:
"There's a hidden elite that controls almost every aspect of your life, yes you who's listening. They want to abolish every God given right you have, they want to reduce the population at least down to 20% of current population. The rest that survives will be slaves. Don't believe me? I've dealt with them for years and I know what I've seen and heard from them, it's unmistakeable. Just wait when the world economy implodes and they introduce a one world curreny to "save" you."

That's it. If he's so strong in his faith this should be no problem.

I'm telling you, they are perpetuating the lie we all live under. How the fuck is that helping?

Yeah when I see Bono with Bill Gates, or GWB, or Obama et al I cringe, deeply cringe, as I knew and loved U2's music way before any of this stuff over the last decade, and heck I'm a GLP'er, that should tell you a fair bit about my mindset - utterly anti NWO, and wide awake to the continual oppression and tyranny upon the world right now, times have never been darker.

The rest of the band have openly spoke about how they don't like Bono wining and dining with Presidents etc, but know that ultimately its something he has to do and that he is doing the right thing. I dont think its Bono that is dancing to Obama's tune, or GWB or Bill Gates tunes so to speak, let me put it that way.

A lot of great things have come from something he didn't have to be involved in. He could have just sat back, got fat, old and wrinkly like many folk in any remotely similar position.

I definitely wish it was someone else other than Bono doing what he's doing in his freetime, so U2 could focus more on the music, and maybe we might have had 5 more great albums out of them over the last decade or two.

I do think the whole RED thing was a good idea handled very very badly though, and has potentially undone some of the positive stuff Bono has done otherwise.

Just my humble coppers worth.

Okay, the focus here is this...the Crown Heights, Brooklyn NY riots were happening at the time.

Two years after this video, this collab was put together, a kid who I went to high school with...Yusef Hawkins, was shot dead for being black, right in the 'hood of Bensonhurst, from a dirty gang of white kids who I also knew verysad If I recall it was about 5-6 blocks from where I lived and grew up most of my life.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

This is just a snippet of the impact from this kid's life:

Memorials

- Mural of Hawkins in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, 2012.
- Spike Lee's film Jungle Fever is dedicated to the memory of Hawkins, and Hawkins' photograph appears at the beginning of the film.
- A faded mural painted soon after Hawkins' death is still visible on the side of a building on Verona Place in Bedford-Stuyvesant. It was repainted in August 2011 by street artist Gabriel Specter.
- The song "Snacks and Candy" by the band Miracle Legion was written about this event.
- The song "Slipping into Darkness" by Queen Mother Rage was dedicated, in conclusion, to Hawkins
- The song "Treat 'em Right" by Chubb Rock has the following reference in the first verse: "In your hearts and minds never forget Yusef Hawkins". (VML, 01Jul11)
- Tupac Shakur wrote a poem about Yusuf's death, "For Mrs. Hawkins". He also mentions him in the song "Tearz Of A Clown" in the fourth verse: "Has anybody here seen Yusef Hawkins? I thought I seen him talking with Malcolm walking. Where? Over the rainbow? Nah, over the trap, another murdered brother now where's the pay back?".
- The film Blind Faith was dedicated to the memory of Hawkins.

It hasn't stopped since...adding Rodney King to the mix...and now Trayvon Martin...IT WILL NEVER STOP.

If there is something to be said about this simple video...it's just a beautiful BLACK AND WHITE video with a heartfelt, gifted group of people singing together in harmony, the way it should be hf

Bono is not on that crusade, there are other great people doing great jobs in that regard. Theres a certain well-known anti-globalist who makes some great movies that I can't name on here that does a great job in that regard, he interviewed Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins just recently, maybe you saw it. Billy Corgan is a good friend of Bono's I might add.

Besides which, if U2 and Bono did anything like that, the media would just make them out to be a laughing stock and loony-tunes and it would all be over for them as a band, and the platform that the band have to do positive stuff would be gone forevermore. We've all experienced a hard time telling loved ones and friends about some of the stuff the likes of us GLP'ers are exposed to. The mainstream media would have a field day.

U2 are on a different crusade. U2 made a gazillion £ / $ back in the late 80's / 90's - its definitely not about that now (if it ever was - as some will undoubtedly suggest, and it would be naive to think they haven't tried to make a big pile of dough as a consequence of their music).

It's first and foremost about making music and THE album, which despite some outstanding albums in years gone by, I still believe THE album is yet to come.

And secondary to that, it's about using their status and position, Bono in particular, to do something useful and tangible with real effects in the here and now.

Let me tell you Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry are wise folk, been around the block a few times (quite literally lol), they know people are pulling strings that shouldn't be anywhere near those damn strings, they're not so naive not to realise that.

Bono is helping to fight to save millions dying needlessly from Malaria, he's not on board with this global population reduction bullshit.

What Bono is doing is treating symptoms, almost like taking a pill for a depression, which won't help in the long run.

If you don't adress the very core of the problem, like the famous anti-globalist radio host is doing, then it's completely pointless. Yes I have it the interview, it was brilliant.

David Mustaine was on the show as well, he even wrote a song called New World Order, why hasn't U2 done some in the same vein?

Matthew Bellami of Muse has also been interviewed. Their latest album is about fighting the New World Order and global tyranni. Why hasn't U2 done some in the same vein?

Because they're comfortable with their lives and ultimately don't give a shit about you. They are one huge diversion.

Also like I said, the public ridicule from the mainstream media would be no problem for Bono and the band, if they were so strong in their faith.

I don't believe in Icke's reptilian stuff, but the rest I'm inclined to, he jumped straight out in the open and was a laughing stock for years, now a following is picking up and he's impervious to ridicule as he's already hit the roof. He has no problem with that and it benefits him even.

Bono. Is. A. Huge. Narcissist.

Or even a high functioning sociopath.

I'm serious, this is not me merely hating them, I love their music, but I got sorely dissapointed by them by the time I woke up.

I used to love this song and sing along with it, until I was born again. Now I have a new testimony. I found Jesus and I am satified.

Because God has put gifts and talents inside me and wants me to use them for His higher purposes. This gives meaning to my life. Also, to serve, worship, cling to and know Him are the greatest fulfillments of life. Because I am accepted in the Beloved, Jesus. God redeemed me and gave me a hope for the future.

Just wondering Brother...what was your motive when you posted about the U2 eucharist thing?

Asking nicely hf

Oh, you always ask nicely! hf

It was a term brought to my attention a few years ago by the worship committee at church. Your post reminded me of it.

Okay...well I felt you were maybe trying to warn me about the dark side of U2 with the Church? Your post didn't specify anything so that was my assumption.

You have to realize it kind of created a snowball effect...well just a little chuckle

Yes, it looked like it had that effect, totally unintended. Seems like the majority of the posters didn't read the title of your thread.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Sorry but I find that hard to believe.

I'm also sorry this turned out to be an anti-Bono/U2 thread.

Nothing like a diversion from one kind of hate to another!
