Moby Dick...

At least I think that's the name... a little drunk tonight, and that sounds like maybe a porn I saw.

But for sure by Herman Melvill and about a whale.

(not a porn novel)

Lord of the Rings helps me to live, I've read it countless times. I agree with whoever said you're either a reader or you're not, but I couldn't live without the release of leaving this world, and immersing myself in the made up world of fiction, and you really can learn a lot from it, from characters who become your friends. jmo, peace.

OK.

Semi-fiction there, right?

The message was lost in translation and people just don't get it. It's as clear as you'd like to make it.

The Brothers Karamazov.

And to the poster that said he never reads fiction, I've often wondered if other sentient lifeforms have fiction. I mean I wonder if there are intelligent species "out there" that never developed a concept of "other than fact." Like no stories, no lies, nothing. Then that makes me wonder if other exo-species might have no religions.

I wish we had contact with other worlds so as to get a perspective on whether religion and fiction are the norm or are an aberration.

I think too much. Maybe I should just watch Idol.

Purple Chicken, I love reading your posts, and finally get to ask you a question: Since you love Stranger in a Strange Land (as I do), I was wondering if you identify more strongly with Jill, Dorcas, Miriam, or Anne? I see you more as Jill. But I find some of Jill in me, as well as Anne.

Also, did you get to read the unedited version Heinlein's widow published? I felt it was well-worth the re-read. Maybe it was because I was older, but I really liked it more.

Namaste!

PS: after I posted this, I was looking for your post to leave you green karma, and suddenly saw your new av. I miss your gentle smiling visage, but will remember you in my heart that way, when I see the purple chicken. Love!

Hmmm...never really thought about that (identifying with a character) and it's been sooooooo long since I read it last, I really couldn't say.

I'd love to reread it again and will definitely keep on the look out for the unedited version - thx! Thou art god!

LOTR is my favorite series of books ever, and like you I've read the trilogy multiple times. Feel like the guy in conspiracy theory (always buying the catcher and the rye) because I've ended up with 5 copies of the fellowship of the rings.

The rest of his works are okay, like The Silmarillion, but nothing he wrote is as epic as the LOTR.

Sure I've read many other books, but when seeking a good dose of escapism, lotr is my vehicle of escape.

Who has the time to read?

And I've never understood why ANYONE would read fiction.

What a waste of time.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15131093

Yo must be a very bored individual. Try that: turn off your TV
and read a book instead... There is the time you will need to read.

Fiction books are important to culture, they give ideas for the next generation and elevate the mind into the dimension of thought. Without fiction, we become mindless zombies. (look around you)
 Quoting: •••Weltschmerz•••

People who make false assumptions are such fools.

Fiction is worthless. Only a non-thinker will waste time reading fiction.

You haven't been paying attention, have you?

Most of society is comprised of "mindless zombies" . . . many of whom spend precious time on worthless endeavors.
